I'd recognize that block print writing anywhere! Ship 12, Div 041

That's kinda the basics of it...I am sure the other Veteran Moms will add to that and you will have questions for details :-) Ask away!

I'll also post my personal experience (as it did not follow the "norm") soon.

For those Sailors having A school in Great Lakes, you will have a very short time after PIR with them before they have to transfer to TSC up the road. They will be bussed over. Again from the Family Guide:

Sailors transferring to Great Lakes "A" School:

The Great Lakes "A" schools are not located onboard Recruit Training Command. Sailors attending "A" school in Great Lakes must check into their new command before they can go on liberty. The check-in process may take up to 5 hours. Please ensure your Sailor has your phone number so they can contact you once they have completed the check-in process.

Those Sailors attending A school outside of Great Lakes usually fly out on Saturday. Some may leave Sunday. But the general "rule" is Saturday. This can happen usually because of flight schedules. You won't actually know until PIR day unfortunately. They do not get there itinerary until PIR week.

This is fro your Family Guide:

Sailors transferring to "A" School Outside of Great Lakes:

If your new Sailor is attending "A" School outside of Great Lakes, generally they will depart RTC the day after graduation. Travel arrangements are made by RTC, therefore Sailors are required to travel on their government orders. If your Sailor is flying out of state they must travel to the airport using government transportation, you may not escort them to the airport; however, you may meet them at the airport.

Your Sailor will receive guidance from their Recruit Division Commander regarding their liberty period on the day of graduation. Your Sailor may be required to check out with their RDC prior to commencing liberty. Please ensure you return to RTC with adequate time for your Sailor to reach his barracks prior to expiration of liberty.

RTC does not have your Recruit’s liberty or travel schedule, so you will need to stay in contact with them. Only your Recruit and their supervisor know their specific liberty schedule.

Jayceemom - Most SRs will leave for A school on Saturday.  Seems that we can have them for most of Friday afternoon/evening, depending on duty they may have.  On Saturday, a bus takes them to their airport.  As family members, you can get special passes from the airline to get through security to wait at the gate with them until they board their flight for A school.  (Obviously, this isn't set in stone, but this is the way it works for *most* )

Hi all! I read the other day that the pant legs are rolled up from when they were measured for their boots.

Anything exciting going on in Facebook? I don't use it and wonder what I might be missing...

I am hoping for advice. Does anyone know if the sailors will leave for A school that night after graduation or will they have the weekend before they leave? Trying to plan airfare. Thank you.

navyjeep - Congrats!

The Recruits roll up their pants legs when they have their feet measured for their boots and athletic shoes...most likely ordered not to roll them down for time purposes and well...just to learn to follow orders! They are just going to be removing them soon anyways :-)
