Great post, Tabbi. Thanks for sharing all of that. I have had people on other PIR groups with similar situations asking advice, and I had no clue what to tell them. Thanks and thank your hubby for giving me some words to say to them now!

dalton's mom...i echo what the other moms say. The insurance is a big deal and it is hard to go back. I was reading your initial post about the surgery and my husband said he needs to stay or he will never go back. He was a recruiter before he retired. For that matter...they may not allow him to come back. They limit medical waivers becuase there is no need to take them when they can take a healthy one. I'm so sorry...I think this is my biggest fear that something like this happen...it happens all the time and often they will play on the kids fear and if they don't stand up and say i don't want to go...they won't even try. The other thing that migh happen is often they stay in medical hold the entire time his division is there and may not get released for several weeks...My husband use to work in the basic tng squadron for the AF also (in the medical clinic). If the kid wants it...and shows it...they will do what they can and work with it. If they quickly say...i want to go home...they could write him off.

dstmj: You will get the form letter soon with the ship/division numbers and the PIR date. It should include some info on graduation including hotel info. If you want to get a jump on researching hotels, google "hotels in the Great Lakes IL area". Gurnee and Waukegan are two of the surrounding towns.
