Heartluvin - thank you so much. That helped alot. My son has a college degree so I think that probably helped his rank from what you say. I know he asked for his laptop so I figured they would have internet - so glad for that. He does not have a cell phone but, I will see if he wants one off my plan. Again thank you for the information - I am getting excited about going up to PIR. I'm sure this week will go fast.

Hope some of that made sense, I was talking to a friend while I was typing and missed some. I have my sons DEPS book so I am getting the information from that and also what he has been telling me....

Jeannie, here is some more information for you. I don't know it all but this is what I know. Your son will recieve his rank depending on the his grades if he was in college at all, my son was in running start so he had some college credit that helped him to go in as an E-2. Then their ASVAB scores. The collar devices that they receive are what they have earned.. My son will be getting a collor device for E-5 since he was squad leader, but that is not going to be his rate. He will be E-3 until he earns that rate.. They go through the same process when they become enlisted. It will take him the minimum amount of time 9 months to advance to the next pay rate of E-4. That makes him a Seaman and no longer an apprentice Yes he will have internet and they will have their cell phones. Once they get to "A" school it should be the life of a College student. They will be studying like in school, so they will have the time after classes to do what they need to do. Then when they get their duty stations it will be life as normal as it can be for them. They are working and have time off scheduled. Hope this helps some.
