Dear Mom & Dad,
Today we had basic Seamanship training. Tomorrow we have the MarlinSpike. On Wed. we have our weapons turnover inspection. (WTI) and our 2nd PFA. My toes feel numb because were always walking everywhere in combat boots. I want to buy Dr. Sholles at the NEX (Navy Exchange) We don't PT as much as I thought. It's a lot of sitting on the ground and studying. Everyday this week we wake up at like 4 am in the morning. Some of the recruits who are given power by the RDC's are starting to become A**holes. It seems strange to here one of our "own" yell at us and tell us to shut the F**** up. Talk about it going to their head! Today we did a 12 min. sustained run and I got to call cadence. It was really cool. 24 more days left. The Navy doesn't count weekends, I guess? When it comes to saying what week and day we are on. I count them though.
I miss seeing the ocean and smell of it. Phil's BBQ, Carl's Jr. (food not work!) I miss driving. (I think I forgot how to drive?) lol I miss your homemade flour tortillas, guacamole dip, salsa, beans, TV, naps, my black sandals, my bed, 2 ply T.P. 1 hour showers, 1 hour shits, 1 hr piss LOL!, walking on grass or dirt (all it is here is asphalt, concrete, tile or industrial flat carpet in the offices) My cover smells like sweat and sunscreen. Gross. I miss popcorn, soda. I miss blankets. I don't use mine because it's hard to fold a wool blanket perfectly and I don't want to waste time making racks. The weather has gotten a little bit better...not as humid. I only have 2 mosquito bites in 2 places. 1 on arm and the other 1 on hand. We do all our PT in doors. Back to what I miss most: Shopping with Mom for stupid things at Costco, the smell of the garage when working on the truck with Dad, walking around outside at night. (That's an odd one, huh?)
Wed. Aug. 8th
So today was a bad day. It started good but ended badly. Passed the 2nd PFA again. Failed personal inspection. Passed weapons turnover inspection. Got a lot of shit from the RDCs. I got a question wrong, wasn't standing at attention properly, (hands not on seams) and my sleeves were askew. (so stupid) So tired ...night-night.
Aug. 5th Thurs.
We went to the Virtual gun range with lasers. Tomorrow we use real ones. The days are really flying by fast. It's almost Sunday. Today we are 4-2, tomorrow is 4-3. Next week we start damage control/fire fighting. Oh yeah, I made E-2 so now I get to wear 2 diagonal green stripes on my sleeve instead of nothing on my sleeve. And I think I get like 200 or 300 bucks more in my pay check or monthly pay...not quite sure yet. This advancement saved me 9 months of waiting. Our division also got "Flagged" for zone inspection. That means we did so well that we get to carry that flag when we march. When you guys come to graduation you'll see that we have the scholastic flag too.
I got a bad cough now, but they gave me Tylenol and cough syrup. We did fire today. Shot a barretta M9 pistol, and a 12-gauge M500 shot gun. It was very cool! I'm running out of stationary but someone got a package loaded with stationary, so I got some. I'm good...no need to send any.
Aug. 8th (Sunday) Well, it's 18 days until we graduate and like 2 weeks until Battle Stations! We take test 2 on Tuesday. I'm not too worried about it but a lot of people are stressing about it. Yes, I'm picking up good study habits now. (you guys wouldn't believe it)
The weather is like San Diego today. It hasn't been as hot as lately. Next week, (by the time you read this) we will start fire fighting. Well got to send this out today. Love, M

Hello again. I have a question. My SR is in Ship 07 and Div 288. Since I have not heard anything for a while, I have been following DIV 285 - DIV 288 comments on whats going on at GL. Is thats a good way to keep up with their daily activities through the week? Thanks again.
