Proud Navy Parent, first of all, I was in the US Army during my time in-country in 1967-68. I wanted my son to join the Navy so that his service time might be a better experience than what I had. Since you keep bringing up the airport, I will explain again that, at O'Hare, the Hilton Hotel was right there, on airport grounds. So, rather than wander the terminals aimlessly, or sit with him at the crowded USO, and since he had many hours before his flight, we actually took Sarge's suggestion and got a room for him at the Hilton so that he could relax, watch a little TV, take a shower, etc. We never left the airport. In fact, he was told to be back at the USO to meet his group at 1730 hrs and that he was free to go wherever until then.... Does that clear it up for you? Regarding your comment about national security, are you really serious? I was not looking for any national secrets, just some idea of what he might be doing once he gets to his permanent duty station. You see, whenever someone says, "you're not supposed to ask", it raises some red flags for me. We live in a free country where it should be encouraged to ask questions and look for answers. It seems to me that you and I fought for that right, among many others. And again, the information I was seeking is really not, in my opinion, a national security issue. In fact, as I have recently learned, there is a wealth if information readily available on the internet about PRP's posted by, among other sources, Military.Com, and the US Navy. Perhaps they don't know about national security either.... I do agree with you that, after the tragedy of 9/11, security has become a major issue. However, if, as a Navy parent, a veteran, a taxpayer, and a law-abiding, respectful citizen of this great country, I cannot ask what my son might be doing for his country without someone telling that I'm not supposed to ask or someone asking me if I know about national security, then something is wrong.....
Mike803 Isent you a friend request my son was in PRP for 1.5 yrs Ill give you info on it ...
First, as I already explained, I did not take my son from the airport, the hotel was at the airport. Yes, as a Vietnam Veteran and a retired police officer, I think I may know a little bit about national security, maybe even more than you..... Do you anything about the Freedom of Information Act? I hardly think getting some informal infotmation about their duties will have a natioal security impact.... Lighten up a little!
Why not? That does not sound like a policy adopted in the country I fought for. What does that mean, "we aren`t allowed"?
We aren't allowed to discuss any specifics about PRP.

Congrats to your son also. Has he explained what he will be doing as a PRP? I am not completely sure what their duties sure. Our son told us originally that PRP's would be going either to Kings Bay, Ga. or Bangor, Washington. I am curious what their duties will be at these other locations.
