Our son also did oc spray drill yesterday! He is also PRP & got his orders for Fairfield, CA. That is all the way across the country from us but at least he is in the states. Congrats on your son being close to home. I guess this will give us a good excuse to visit SanFrancisco!!

Our son has a tentative graduation date from MA School of July 26th. After being on hold for two weeks, he has finally completed his first week of classes and got his OC spray indoctrination yesterday. Says it was like being punched in the face by a fire breathing dragon! Not fun... He also received his orders yesterday and will be going to the Naval Air Station at Patuxent River, Md. He has volunteered for PRP and I wonder if anyone knows what he might expect there and what he would be doing. As parents, we are thrilled with the location of his assignment because it is only about 80 miles from our home!

In 2010, there was no supervision of our sailor at Midway. He did, however, make sure he kept track of his flight & made sure we got him back no later than two hours prior to his departure time.

Just a note: he makes good use of the amenities offered by the USO whenever & wherever he travels. They are an outstanding organization.

Mike803, thanks for clarifying that.

Actually, we did not take our Sailor away from O`hare Airport. The Hilton is right there at the airport.

NavyMomdiv931- My daughter has two roomates. They all arrived together so she knows them from BC. They share a bathroom with 3 other sailors.

Mike803, you indicate that you took your Sailor away from the airport. I have always heard that the Sailors were not to leave the airport even if their flight was several hours from the tme that they arrive at the airport. Your comment indicates that there may have been a chenge in that. What steps did he need to take in order to be able to leave the airport?

How many people to a room? Do they get to pick who they want to room with?

You have to realize that they belong to the USN now. They may have watches they have to do on their "liberty weekend". And yes they are restricted to base for 3-4 weeks depending on how long it takes them to class up. Any time away from base afterwards has a curfew. They are not allowed to just come and go as they please. Everything leave wise has to be approved by chain of command.
