ProudNavyGirlfriend822- Not sure what will happen for you but my daughter flew out the next day after PIR (might be different because it is the 4th of July for you). We thougth she would be able to come home after arriving since "A" school didn't start for 2 weeks. That was a big negative since they can not leave the base until they get OC sprayed(like pepper spray). She is still on hold so she can't go anywhere but people can go see her. I do believe after they get sprayed they can leave the base, not sure about leaving the state. Hope this helps a little.
any one know if there is a place on base to get free WIFI? My daughter is using all our data up trying to stay connected with everyone through FB and E-Mail on her phone!
Likewise, our sailor went to the airport a 3:30 am for a flight that did not leave until 7:15 the following evening. So, we met him there, got a room at the Hilton right at the airport so we could have some quiet time and he could relax, take a shower, watch a little TV, etc. That was way better than hanging around at the USO or wandering the airport. The day rate at the Hilton was only $55.00 and was well worth it. Having to leave him at the airport later that day was much more difficult than leaving him when he first went to boot camp. Must be some added anxiety leaving someone at an airport.... We were all a teary-eyed mess!
cpenn777,
Thanks for your response. I suppose we will not really know what we're dealing with from a cost perspective until we know where he is going to be stationed after A school. So, I am thinking that if he were to be stationed somewhere on the East Coast and, since we live in Virginia, he would be responsible for the cost of a flight to his next assignment from Virginia to the new location, since his home is technically on the way.....? Do I have that right? I'm so confused....
Slbmo3,
Our son is also classed up and gave us the date of July 26 for graduation also. We did attend his PIR on May 24th and also find ourselves, most likely, not able to attend his MA School graduation, much as we would love to do so. We found that PIR week, the travel, the hotel, and other things just added up to a fairly large expense and traveling to Texas from Virginia is just not something that will fit into our budget. We are looking forward to his coming home for a couple of weeks before his next post will now be trying to figure out what it will cost to bring him home. I have been told that the cost of his liberty home is on him, or rather, on us and that the Navy does not pay for his travel. Anyone have any information on that?
