OK MY turn to brag!! :D  My Sailor graduated C School this morning in Kings Bay, Ga!!!  And as of Monday morning he will be on his way home to San Diego for around a week or so before heading up to Bangor, Wa...besides the disappointment of missing the graduation today his brothers and sister and great-grandfather , aunts and uncles are SOOOO excited and are planning a ton of things to do and BBQ's to have!  I can't wait to give my Son a HUGE bear hug!!!  His first request...a California Burrito and later Mom's fried rice...planning on cherishing every moment knowing this could possibly be the last visit in years...so glad to have this site to share my emotions with!!!  Thanks Navy Moms!!!!

Hello , anyone here have a Sailor on the USS Gary?

Comment by BHR/Essex wife on April 27, 2012 at 9:46pm

The USS Essex is returning to San Diego some time in the May, after being stationed in Japan for the last 12 years. The sailors left on the USS Bonhomme Richard February 14th 2012, to swap hulls. The Essex will be leaving again for another deployment shortly there after. Because of the quick turn around several sailor are returning to an empty home due to their spouses return to their home support for the duration of the 2 deployments. We are looking for mom's with base access to come to the pier on the day of the return to give hugs and moral support to the single men and women who have been working very hard over the last few months. This has been a very hard deployment as the crews have been working 12 hour days on both ships. This hull swap is a big deal and we want to show our appreciation. The families who will be there will be preoccupied with the return of their own sailor. Please let us know if you can help.

Thank you,

BHR/Essex Families

Ginger, my son moved from the USS Essex, Sasebo, Japan to the USS Boxer, San Diego last April.  He married a Japanese girl and she finally arrived at New Years.  Where is your son going and doing?

Hi All...I'm happy to find you guys. My son just got to San Diegofrom GL and we are planning to visit him  over Thanksgiving. Any suggestions on where to stay. First time there so we are kind of at a loss. Any suggestions about area or specific hotels? Hope all you and your sailors are doing well. Thanks in advance..

OMG i have been in LA rush hour traffic and San Diego is nothing like that! I also forgot to mention Encanto in the less than desirable area...I have lived in La Mesa all my life and love it..there are expensive areas in La Mesa too like Mt. Helix..and any homes with a view of course! Good luck!

Also--a lot of SEALS live in Imperial Beach--a lot less expensive than most areas

Hi Jane..Sorry I am no familiar with downtown complexes...have lived in the suburbs all my life....Rush hour traffic in San Diego is really not that bad no matter where you live...except on rainy days. I can tell you what areas are not exceptional due to crime drugs.. etc., You don't want to live anywhere between 25th and 54th streets...Also National City, Logan Hts, Spring Valley..Southeast San Diego,San Ysidro & East San Diego.. Coronado, La Jolla are great places but expensive, Kensington, El Cerrito, La Mesa, College Area, Mira Mesa, Kearny Mesa, Clairemont, Chula Vista..EastLake & Bonita are decent areas to live in...
some so-so areas include El Cajon, Lakeside, Santee & Rolando area depends on where exactly you live...I may have missed some...hope this helps..
