hi lori!! so nice to meet you:) my son also married last year:) how exciting that you are having the wedding ceremony coming up!! super congrats to you and to your son and his bride! my son is very happy with his SD orders:) he will be on the Paul Hamilton.they haven't had a chance to look into any housing yet since they just got orders so I wondered if anyone knew a good place to start to look or a good place to live for a young couple..on base? off base? why did your son and DIL decide to rent off base? thanks for the info!

Hi Mom0717! Welcome to our group! I'm sure your son is VERY happy to get SD! My son has been there for several years now. He was stationed on the Vinson but just re enlisted and now has shore duty. He is also married [newly...just before he and his wife both deployed in 2014]. They returned this year and we are finally having their ceremony with family and friends next Saturday! They are renting off base. Have your son and DIL look for ads for housing off base. Some places rent by the month. What will your son be doing do you know?

Hi moms! I'm new to this group.. my son will be transferring to SD in the next few months..so glad to connect with all of you:) I hear SD is a beautiful area. Does anybody have any tips on housing? My son has been in the Navy almost 3 years and is married, no kids.

Good morning! Great to have you here britefuture! I think your son will love SD!  Looks like you and HeyMa's sons are on the same ship! Fantastic.

Thinking of all our sailors and military on this very important day. God bless them for their honor, commitment and courage!

Good morning San Diego Moms! I'm obviously new here. My son is on the USS Theodore Roosevelt and will be arriving in San Diego at some point in the future. He's super excited to be living on the west coast as we are from Maryland. He is a MM Nuke and has been in the Navy for almost 3 years.

Hi there HeyMa! Would love to tell you I'm in The Know but just getting started here. My daughter reported to her ship on Aug 5th. It's currently in it's mid-life overhaul, they're hoping to have that completed by Dec or Jan 2016. She LOVES San Diego and is only a few hours away from home. Sound like you'll have a wonderful homecoming - lots to do in the area. Nice to have you here.

Comment by Oleander on July 21, 2015 at 1:45am

Oh --- we're waaaaaaay behind you in experience. She just graduated A-school and DC training, will be home Thursday for 12 days leave before reporting. Wow - 11 years! congrats to you all! Our Sailor is the baby of the family - and my "suprise child" (change of life). This is new to all of us. We're all very proud of her for choosing this incredible path. Thanks again for you support and info. I'm thinking because the ship is in it's "midlife overhaul/Extended Docking Phase since April 2014 the groups have fallen off.I don't know long the overhaul takes - guess we'll find out more once she reports.

lynda n,

there doesn't seem to be a USS Pearl Harbor FRG FB page, however there is a site for the ship's FRG and I've signed up for the newsletter. Thanks so much for the info!

Comment by Oleander on July 20, 2015 at 10:30am

morning lynda, now I'm really going to sound uninformed! haha - what is the FRG page?

Comment by Oleander on July 20, 2015 at 12:45am

Hi lynda, she'll be on the USS Pearl Harbor. I understand it began an update/mid-life overhaul April 2014. Not sure when it will be back. Thanks for responding - her ship site has no activity!
