Now that my son has started the process for joining the Navy and is considered a Future Sailor, I want to start collecting things to put into my son's scrapbook. What kinds of things did you save to put in your scrapbooks for your sailor? Obviously I don't have much right now, but I did save a couple things out of the DEP folder that he received after he went to MEPS. Thanks in advance for your response!
I saved the parking pass from PIR. I also printed pics from the RTC facebook page. I used them to show the different things they did like haircuts, fittings for uniforms, captain's cup. I also started a timeline of dates of his navy career. I buy navy scrapbook stuff where ever I find it. My husband is retired navy so I have done lots of pages.
I've scrapbooked for years and my kids save everything, in case I want to use it. I have his DEP stuff, MEPS stuff, letters from BC, plane tickets to go see PIR, etc. Now that he's on a ship, I can look through his ships posted photos and download. If there are any awards recieved, they post them and then I download those my son recieves. He's recieved three awards and one promotion this year. Certificate goes on one page and photos on the other. I always do double page spreads. I guess I'm weird that way. He's deployed right now, so all I requested was postcards and photos he takes to add to the book.
I've been using a digital camera for years and recently upgraded to the camera I've been drooling over. I take tons and then print only the ones I want in the scrapbook and the size I want. I have used them to make online books for the grandparents and myself. With digital, options are endless.
I saved most of the paperwork from DEP then MEPS and also his Enlistment Papers(I removed personal info) his airline ticket to BC, the Schedule for his PIR and photos etc from PIR....that is all in his Book to date.... now I have his A School photos and information to put in....looking forward to everything from the next years of his career!!...I also used ribbon to detail the paper, one had anchors and the other was red white and blue striped. Scrapbook.com has lots of Navy embellishments. Their Navy paper packs are awesome!! I used small photo mats for some of the photos. The Scrapbook came from Amazon....they have a beautiful Navy one with a raised Navy Emblem on the front. :D
Thanks for the scrap ideas for an album.
