He had his first Duty station in Sigonella, Italy for 3 years. We went and visited and toured the country for 3 weeks! (That was AWESOME) He was then stationed at PH. One of 2 bases where Sea Bees are Homeported (Not OPSEC) They are assigned to a Battalion based either at Port Hueneme, CA (PH) or Gulfport, MS. Those battalions are then deployed approximately every 2ish years. We had 3 deployments in his time with battalion. He's currently stationed in Cuba. (I Just learned that's also not PERSEC but I always take his lead!)
BU is Builder, CM= Construction Mechanic CE= Construction Electrician, EA= Engineering Aide EO = Equipment Operator, SW= Steelworker UT=Utilitiesman. You can read more about each of these job and more at https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/Career-Management/Community-Management/Enlisted/Seabees/BU/ Just select the Job on the left.
The Awesome thing about a SeaBee job is that it's most like a 9-5 job. Currently my Bee is suffering by having to work from 9:30-2ish pm most days. He still has Watch to stand but they are usually free after 2 so he has been going spear Fishing and getting his Dive Certifications for open water. (Civilian... Not military but that's been discussed....) He is talking about extending his tour there and he wants to stay for the full 20 years. Since the skills they are learning are in demand, your SR will have a ready career once they get out. Encourage them to keep track of their hours and skills and certificates, Because once they get out they can transfer those to the Civilian Apprentice/Journeyman/Master ranks for pay on that side. The Navy has the info but they are not so good about logging the hours. (This is explained to them in A school but my bee was /is Lazy about this kind of stuff and he has no idea where he's at... All he knows is if he stays till 20... It's about equal to Master Builder in the outside and that's good enough for him. If you know who that other mom is you can encourage her to join us here too!
