My daughter is in RCU for stress fractures in both shins. After talking to her this past Sunday, she said she was given the option to finish BC while in RCU. Does anyone have info on what happens, does she have to be FFD before completing tasks, does she still have PIR? I am all for her shaving off time being there even if it means sacrificing PIR! They get so sad, depressed, and pessimistic while in RCU. I just want my bubbly, goofy daughter back. I know they are in good hands there but it seems to suck the life out of them. Any info would be helpful, cause I have searched for the answers everywhere :) Prayers to all the SR's and Sailors out there!
Hi Andikeesi, if you have a Facebook account, I recommend that you join the FIT and RCU Division Ship 4. The families on this page seem to have a lot of insight on how RCU works. And they are an awesome support system!
Our son finished up in RCU also due to Stress Fractures. BC went from 8 weeks to 16, but he is now almost finished with A school and is doing great. It does get better, he continued to assure us he would get thru. Definitely builds strength and character. Encourage her to tough it out. It is worth it. She will be glad she did. You need to stay positive, send the cards and letters... they go along way. Encourage her to get involved in the RCU, there are jobs that will keep her occupied. Best of Luck!
My son was transferred to this Div last night.....any recent MOM's I can talk to?
Hi Andikeesi, My son is also in RCU right now with a stress fracture to his knee. He's been there for 5 weeks now and probably has another two to three weeks yet to go. I'm not sure that they will allow any type of meds, including vitamins, as they "take care of their own". However, there is a Facebook page called :SHIP 4 FIT/RCU Navy BC support" that you can become a member of. There seem to be a lot of people in the know on this page and a lot more frequent posts.
My son said they are able to read on their own after 1800 and I was able to send him some of his books from home. He'll leave them there for others when he's out of Recovery, they are the Eragon series. I also send him papers full of military jokes and other military info such as history - anything to read. Maybe your daughter can find him through that avenue since we cannot name names. He's from Florida. He said it's just very boring in there so if they can find others just to talk to during the day it may help things go faster. Good luck to you and your daughter!
