Choose your Username.  For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either).  Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username.  While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups!  Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself!  Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility. 

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.  

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello, any advice is greatly appreciated.  I will try to just give the short story.  My son stress fractured hus leg on the last week of bootcamp on his final run & was put into a full leg cast on July 6th, 2018.  The cast was removed in August 2018.  A couple days later, he slipped & tore his tendon.  This injury required surgery.  He is back at Ship 04 recovering.  He is so much stronger than I am.  I miss him very much & knowing that he is injured makes it harder.  Has anyone had a similar experience with a successful outcome that can be shared?  He is a fighter & is determined to get to A school for Air Traffic Control.  Thank you for any & all input on this stressful situation.

My son and another mom's son were in RCU at the same time and we chatted back and forth about the experience at https://navyformoms.ning.com/group/ship04div741/forum/topics/fractu... . In that thread we decided RCU is a lot like purgatory for our kids and us.

One thing I know for sure: if your son is determined enough he'll get to A school. He's going to have to endure a lot more than those who don't visit RCU but the experience will help him in the long run.

One thing that helped my boy was working as a yeoman in the RCU office. It's pushing papers but the routine and sense of doing something was the best thing he did while there. Tell your son to ask for a yeoman position. It's worth it for him.
