It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

She didn't know how long she would be there or when she gets to come home - she still has to talk to legal.   I was looking on Ship 5 moms and someone posted it should be a few weeks (and I assume after the 4 weeks of her healing)

@Jill I was researching it as well - I'm thinking maybe she did too much swimming in high school and not enough jogging - she was on the swim team - but nothing is making sense yet.

Angie, I did some research today on osteopenia, not going to write everything I found, but there's a ton of info out there, look when you get a chance.

Oh Angie...   I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter.  Thankfully, she will be able to come home and have you to help her.  Did they give any indication about how long she will stay before discharge?  Oh honey, I'm so sorry!

Hi everyone - thanks for the support - I got a call from my daughter to today - she has osteopenia (bone density lower than normal) - she had stress fractures in both her shins, both hills, and on top of both feet - the doctor said it's the worse bone scan he's ever seen - it was lit up like a christmas tree.   So she is being medically discharged, after her fractures heal - at least she is coming home :)....

Good morning ladies...   Jill and Angie, I'm so sorry to hear about your SRs, but glad that you found us here.  This really is an amazing group of moms, and the support we try to give each other really seems to make all the difference in the world.

My son has been at RTC since October 25th (so it's been a long haul...), and in RCU since December 29th.  He had a stress fracture (which seems to be the common theme here) on his left shin, went through 6 weeks of healing, got into Phase 4 and started running again in mid-Feb.  However, on his 3rd day of running, he had pain in his other shin.  Found out he had a stress fracture now on his right shin and started the 6 week recovery all over again.  UGH!!!   Last I heard from a phone call last Saturday, was he has moved into Phase 3 and is hoping for Phase 4 again in a week or so (we'll see...)  He is hoping to be finished with RTC (finally) by the end of March.

It did take awhile for the mail to catch up, so don't worry.  Like Barby said, no news is good news.  Just keep sending encouraging cards and letters.  My SR says that the mail what keeps him going.  You can't send too much.  In RCU, they are able to have books, so you might want to send a couple of books your kids might like.  That should help keep them from being completely bored and raise spirits.

Welcome aboard, AngieT.  I'm sorry to hear your SR is in the RCU now.  I, too, spent quite a bit of time reading through the posts and found it quite helpful as well as encouraging as you said.

My son said it was hard to tell his friends in his division that he was heading to RCU though he said all were very supportive.  His original PIR has come and gone which was hard, however, he really wants this and is willing to stay in RCU longer if necessary to heal, finish bootcamp and head off to his A school.

Angie... Im soooo sorry you've been lost for a week...   what has happened with your SR???   Jill  ASMO mail took a little over a week to get re routed.. don't know why... but it takes a while... as soon as i got the call and the new address i mailed to my SR..  my SR was phase 3 when he got to RCU..  well maybe a week of phase 2.. depends on the extent of the injury...

i just realized Jill i wrote SHE no clue why .. lol  wore out i guess...  hang in there moms..  whats the hardest about RCU?  im guessing the sitting and waiting to move on... while i was in Navy boot i was asmo'd out for bronchitis...  it sucked leaving my company (what divisions were called back in the 1700"s )lol  and just sitting.. spent 2 weeks coughing ...  best thing to do is write to your SR'S... i posted my SR's address on my FB page and kept telling him about the N4M stories and that all of his old div moms were pulling for him... infact they left up the countdown calendar and changed it to his new PIR date when he got put back into training...  ALL OF THESE GROUPS ARE AMAZING....

Sharon....remember NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS.....   hugs to everyone..

Hi - Thank you Jill for telling me the right div!!! I think I have spent an hour reading everybody's story's and they are encouraging.   I have been lost for a week.

Thank you Sharon.  I'm also talking to another mom on FB whose daughter is in here too, and she's wondering if there is some type of mail delay when they first get moved in.  It's been 8 days for her, and still no letter, even though her daughter said they have much more time to write... have you all experienced that as well?  I invited her to join this group, she should be here shortly.
Keep me posted on your son's progress, and I will add him, and Barb's son to my prayer list as well.  (and all the others here)  I'm thinking of just wall papering my prayer list in my bedroom....

Hi Jill,
Sorry to hear about your SR's fracture. Barb gave a great summary of the RCU.
My son has been in RCU since January 17. He was week 3 day 5 when we got the call about his two stress fractures-one in each leg
He called this past Saturday and told us he was in phase 4 and developed pain and tenderness in one of his legs. Ugh! He had a Dr appointment on Monday so I'm waiting for a letter to find out what the diagnosis might be.
He is not a letter writer which is frustrating for me. I do write him everyday regardless.
This is a small yet extremely wonderful and helpful group of moms who are SO supportive of one another. Welcome aboard! Sharon
