It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

Peejay,
Thanks for the update on your son. What a blessing to have some time with him before he left for South Carolina.
We asked and Kevin did say he was taking Vitamin D and Calcium. My husband did some research as well and learned that 16-20% recruits get stress fractures-this was across all military branches.
I'm glad to know that my son will see the doctor tomorrow and discuss this new onset pain and tenderness. Lots of prayers and positive thoughts are heading Kevin's way.

Back home after spending 5 hours with Payne on Thursday evening.  It was so good to hug him and see him so positive and happy.  We took him to a Chicago institution in the Loop, Lawrey's steak house, where we had a leisurely meal and they were so nice and even comped his dinner - supporting the men in uniform.

It was quite an emotional ride since we didn't know if we were going to see him till after we got off the plane that morning - he called to say the Chief would give him the afternoon off but that he had to do processing out till then. We waited outside the gate for over an hour nervous that something had changed but then when we saw him; it was all worth it.

He left the next morning with one other Nuke and called from South Carolina to say he was in his new room, that it was nicer than his Tulane dorm room, and he won't start school until there are enough to fill a class - they think 3 weeks.  So now he has weekends till then to "hang out" if we want to come down.  Between my work travel - I leave first thing tomorrow morning - and weekend college lacrosse games for my daughter, don't think we can do a trip to Charleston yet.  It was so lucky that I have a good friend in Milwaukee that we stayed with this weekend because we had already changed our tickets once for no fee and they won't do it twice...so we got home late last night after two days of catching up and touring Milwaukee.

Sharon sorry to hear about your SR's pain.  Ask your SR if he is taking Calcium and Vit D supplements.  I sent Payne some research the day after I got the call that he had stress fractures that the supplements heal the bones up to 33% faster...and the blind study was done several years ago at RTC. I assumed that it would be part of the protocol for all stress fractures.  Apparently not because Payne had to ask for them and told me he is still taking them.

I wish your SR's fast healing and many calls home.

I'm back from the post office. We had 18 minutes to talk earlier today. My SR was moved to phase 4 at some point, started doing 400 meter runs and now has pain in one leg. Ugh. He said there is some tenderness to touch as well. He sees the doctor on Monday and will discuss this issue with him. He is aware he might be set back again which he seems to be okay with as he doesn't want to be medically separated. He said he has about three weeks of Boot Camp left once he is declared fit for duty and he's not sure how much, if any, he'll be able to do while in the RCU. Overall, it was a good talk and he seems accepting of the situation.
We asked him to let us know what happens at the doctor appointment. He said he might be able to call us to let us know otherwise he will write to us.
So we wait and pray and know that more will be revealed.

My SR just called. What a relief for this mom! I'm off to the bookstore for him and will write about chat a bit later.

Hi SharonW...   You mentioned in one of your posts this week that your SR has been in RCU for 6 weeks.  How much longer is he expecting to be in RCU?  Just curious...

Patrick's Mom....   It sounds like you're having a great time.  I'm so thrilled for you.  How wonderful that the airline was accommodating -- that's not something you hear often.  About your hair, I'm sure you look FABULOUS!!  Enjoy your time with Patrick!  Also, let us know if you talk to Barby again.  I've been very worried about her not getting the call from her son, but happy that she's actually there.  I hope PIR is AMAZING for her.

Safe journey...    HUGS!!

Good morning ladies, I'm here at the library again!  Thank you so much Sharon and Navy2011Mom for sharing in my joy and excitement!  I look so forward to sharing in yours!!!  This morning I'm investigating different restaurants on the internet to take Patrick to tonight.  He's wearing his "dress blues", and I bought a new dress at the mall yesterday, so it has to be someplace REALLY special!!!

Praise the Lord I was able to change my airline reservations yesterday, and they waived the change fee due to his change in orders since my original reservation.  What a blessing, as the change fee is $150!  My flight is now Sunday at 1:55 PM, which means we can go into downtown Chicago on the train tomorrow (he has liberty all day Saturday and Sunday), and I can take him out to breakfast Sunday morning before I leave.  YAHOOOOOOOO!!!  I am grateful beyond words!

Oh, and I have to tell you all I talked to Barby last night.  I remembered where she told me she was staying so I called her hotel.  Thank God she and her family are here, and probably all done with graduation by now!  She didn't ever get a call after Battlestations, which I still don't understand, but of course I'm sure she'll fill us in on all the details as soon as she can.  Praying she has a WONDERFUL weekend with her son!!!  They sooooooooooooooo deserve it!

Well, I got through my day alone yesterday with no problem.  Just kept myself very busy.  You obviously know I went to the library in the morning and was on N4M for over an hour.  Then I went to the mall and walked around for quite a while.  There was also a theatre at the mall, so I went to see "The Vow", which is most definitely a "chick flick", and I loved it!  Went back to my room, called my husband, called my ex-husband, Patrick called, talked to Barby, and eventually went to bed!  I was tired!

You'll never guess what I did this morning though...dyed my hair!  I wanted to do it before I left for Chicago, but didn't have a chance, so since I had time now, it worked out perfectly!

Hope you're all doing well this morning.  I'll be here for a while investigating restaurants, so if you see this and want me to ask Patrick any questions about your SR's, please let me know.  I'd be happy to do so.

Love & hugs!

Karen

Patrick's Mom...   WOW!!!!   I'm so happy that you were able to post what things were like for you.  What an AMAZING inspiration!!!   It certainly gives me hope for when I next get to see my son.  I ABSOLUTELY cannot wait, especially after reading your post.  Enjoy your time with Patrick!!  I'm with Sharon, really looking forward to hearing more when you get back next week.  This is so exciting!!  Thanks for taking the time to let us know -- we all appreciate it!  Take care!

Wow, what a story!  I was all teary-eyed reading your post.  It sounds like you had a wonderful afternoon/evening with Patrick. What a blessing that you were able to have this time with him.  I pray you are able to change your flight plans and spend additional time with  Patrick. Looking forward to hearing more about your adventures, Sharon
