RCU SHIP 04 DIV 741

Seamen Recruits are here getting medical treatment for minor injuries. FIT DIV is also in this area.

It's hard not knowing! That is the purpose for this group. Most likely if you are here your SR has had trouble keeping up or not passed a PFA due to some sort of minor medical issue. Often it stress fractures bringing SR's here. Know this when you don’t get a call that is a very good thing. Calling them is not a good thing and it can negatively impact your SR to have his or her “Mommy“ calling!  They are harder on them in this DIV than any other. They want them up and out. The best thing you can do is sends tons of mail. Send scripture and motivational mail. I know my SR said reading the Bible was considered a sign of weakness here. When you get a tearful call motivate. Stay positive and encourage you SR. This is a small detour to greatness and getting the I'm a Sailor call!  Recruit family and friends…“Navy mom friends are the best“…to send your SR mail as well.  NMH for you all!!

I am beyond excited to say that my son just called and has already been assigned to a new divison on light duty for the rest of the week, but out of RCU. He was a little disappointed he has to wait to graduate but knows it’s for the best. Thank you for your support .

My SR was injured with 2 weeks of BC left, so I understand completely. I will say that my rotation of calls is this weekend, usually on Sunday between 1-4.  Keep your phone close to you. I can't say for sure your SR is on the same rotation, but just in case. Maybe you could get a little more information if he calls. Having a future PIR date already set is a good sign. At this point you have to just trust that the Navy is giving them the care they need for long run.

Blakesmom , yes definately not what we were expecting so close to graduation. He passes his initial run and got a bad ear infection and high fever when it was time to take the final prt he was suppose to retake it last Monday so I’m assiming they gave him a couple of chances since he called us yesterday to tell us he got really dizzy and didn’t finish his run and wouldn’t be graduating. He said he would call us back with more details but haven’t heard anything yet. All I know is the recruiter said his new PIR date in the computer was 5/18 which seems like a long time unless he has something more wrong than a recovering ear infection. I’m just anxious to get some new about what’s happening. His dad said he sounded pretty bummed.

Welcome Seabeemom! I know this isn't the group everyone wants to join, but alias! Here we all are. Sorry to hear about your SR. Was he injured or is he in FIT to help him with the run?

Comment by Seabeemom on April 17, 2018 at 3:14pm

Looks like I’ve joined another group. Got the 30 second phone call yesterday that he was not graduating and would call us later. Recruiter found out he’s in RCU with a new date of 5/18. Seems so far away for something minor so I’m hoping he is ok. He had passed everything but the run following bad ear infection. Hopefully they let him call soon. I’m glad to know I can send him letters now.

How is your boy Hummingbirdxss?

Comment by Hummingbirdxss on March 10, 2018 at 5:03pm

Thank you.  I have them on the way.  He was moved from the VA hospital today back to RCU with 3 days of meds with him.  He said he'll be SIQ for 3 days as well.  I'm just praying it has been enough time and the meds are working.  Thank you to everyone for your kind words and prayers.

That’s correct Hummingbird. We’ve used USPS second day delivery and that tends to arrive faster than normal mail.

Would the correct mailing address for RCU be :

Ship 4 Divison 2341
3600 Ohio Street
Great Lakes, IL
60088-7103

Son said he could have cough drops sent to him and want them to get there asap.

Comment by Sarah's Human on March 10, 2018 at 12:20pm

Thanks for the info Hummingbirdxss! I don't think my boy will have grad photos since they're talking about sending him through battle stations without being ASMOed into a division, but if he does get them somehow I know where to locate them.

Best of luck with your young man and his treatment. Pneumonia is no fun at all. Hopefully he's getting intravenous elephant-gun antibiotics and he'll be back on his feet in no time.
