We just got home. That was definately a long drive but well worth it. It was great meeting some of you at the meet and greet. Unfortunately we were too tired from dirving and did not stay very long.
@pinkaboo-It was nice hearing that you were able to spend some time with your son. I hope he has nothing serious.
@crmom's-we also stayed at the Navy Lodge and checked out Sunday morning. Not sure if we were the ones you saw or not. Also, we were at the top of the row with some people from Div 48, so that may have also been us. You should have popped up, we were having a great time. Unfortunately, the mom from Division 48 was having a string of bad luck though and every time we ran into her during the weekend it was not getting any better
Greetings, I just want to say that I had a fabulous trip. Other than the cold weather, it couldn't have been more perfect. My son finally called me around 5 on Thursday evening. Come to find out he had been in the hospital since Battlestations. He said that bruises suddenly started forming all over his legs and they were swollen and it was very painful for him to walk. He was able to participate in the graduation ceremony, but had to report back to the hospital at noon to see a vascular specialist. He was released around 4 Friday evening and was able to hang out for a while. I felt so bad for him because I could look at him and tell he was in a lot of pain. He felt better Saturday and I was able to spend the entire day with him. He was scheduled for another appointment at 7 am today. I haven't heard from him yet, so I don't know what the outcome is. I'm hoping everything is okay and that his legs were just over exerted.
I also got a chance to meet his bunkmate, the young man who was homeless before joining the Navy. He said he received the cards and wanted me to tell everyone thank you and that it meant a lot to him to receive the cards. He's headed out to A school in Mississippi. When I get my pictures off my camera, I'll post a picture of him so you all can see him.
I had a wonderful time at the meet 'n greet although I was super exhausted. I don't know how I managed to stay up for 63 hours, minus the hour or so nap on the plane. I had more caffeine in my system than the law allowed. Believe me, I crashed after the meet 'n greet. I was so off track that when I woke up Friday morning I had no clue where I was, what I was doing there, or how I got there.
Overall, the trip was wonderful. I'm so proud of my son and all of the other graduates. I am still on cloud nine from the experience.
@crmom- Ian and I will be flying back to Texas today. Its been snowing all day here in Chicago (go figure) but our flight is still schedled to leave on time. We have had a wonderful time with Marty. This whole weekend has been a blessing beyond words. Meeting the other families and recruits was great and I was happy to meet you, your son and your sis.
Im so proud of our sons/ sailors. I know that Im going to miss my son tons. At least now we will have a little more communication with them. Will be hard to leave today. The one thing i know for sure in theis world is I love both of my sons beyond measure and Im looking forward to seeing and watching the fine man I know my son is becoming.
@surfermom
I hate it that you have a cold. There was a little boy on our flight that coughed a croupy cough the whole way back to NC. He looked like he was running a fever and I felt so sorry for him. I keep waiting to start coughing after breathing the circulated air for an hour and a half. Hopefully being a teacher has made my immune system strong. I hope that you feel better soon. You have a great son and I enjoyed getting to put faces to names. Get some rest and I hope you bounce back soon.
I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet the other moms at the Meet and greet. By the time we made it to the Navy Lodge we collapsed in exhaustion. Neither of us wanted to go back out in the snow. We've never been so cold in our lives as we were up there. If anyone else stayed at the Navy Lodge let me know. I think that one of you might have checked out in front of me on Sunday morning. On PIR day I wanted to go up to the group on the back row to see if yall were from the Navy moms group, but shyness and the thought of climbing over people and stepping on feet kept me in my seat. I managed to crawl out one time to get water to take my Tylenol, but after that I stayed put in my seat. People don't like it when you crawl over and around them. I found that out pretty fast. I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet all of you!! I'm so glad that my sister and I were able to be there to share that experience with my son/sailor. I hope that everyone made it home safe and sound.
@pinkaboo
How is your son? I hope that everything was okay when you got there. I was worried about you since you hadn't heard anything.
@surfermom
We enjoyed our breakfast with you and the 4 recruits. I'm so glad that I got to meet you and your family. I hope that yall's flight out yesterday went well. We had a very good flight despite the weather and it feels so good to be back in NC. Let's keep in touch and share info. since both of our sons will be in the same place. I'm glad that your son writes a lot because it helps me to keep up with what's going on with my son. Take care and keep in touch.
@BarbAnn
I hope that your flight is great today and you don't have any delays. We flew out yesterday in a light snow and we didn't have any problems. It felt great to get back to 45 degree weather and no snow on the ground. It was great meeting you and your sons. Send me your email so that I can send you a photo of you and your boys on the train. We enjoyed meeting you guys.
