MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

Daniel called, he is on the PSD list so since Monday is a holiday, guess we'll hear more on Tuesday!

Hi raineegal, I am really sorry to hear about your daughter! I am so sorry her recruiter misdirected her! he should have known it would come up later...seems like it usually does and then the recruit and family suffer the consequences! I wonder if there is anyway to report him up the chain of command because that isn't right!

Adamsmom - your is coming home by bus...you are braver than I am! We live in Southern CA and I told my son I didn't want him on a bus or train for days, I'd pay for the plane ticket...course flying is something he's done many times and I know there isn't a problem with it...he's never been on a train and the thought of that much of a bus trip scared me!

I've been lucky, Daniel has called everyday. Thursday was NEX day so it was like 20 minutes...Friday thru Sun has been about 10 minutes! Hopefully he'll see legal soon! My husband rocked the "preverbial boat" so to speak, so Daniel actually had to ask him to stop emailing people...wonder if he'll come home quicker because of it???

Hi Patty - All I know at the moment is it wasn't his choice. He said he goes to the exchange tomorrow and will try and find a phone and give me a better call with more information. He just got to ship 5 today, says he goes to legal in the next couple of days.

Vonnie - thanks for the words of advice. My husband, a 20 year navy retired CPO is taking this REALLY hard...so hopefully tomorrows phonecall will shed more light on the reason(s).

It is heartbreaking when our kids have their sights set on joining the Navy and it doesn't work out for various reasons. All we can do is offer them our support, love and give them some time to adjust that there must be a better option for them. I suspect they need some time to step away from the Navy before they can really think about what that next option is - just wish the job market was more fruitful for them.
