It seems that all our guys seem to have the same feelings! It is important to remind them that this is temporary and they will make it! When they do, they will have worked through more than the recuits who haven't experienced "life in RCU!" They will make it!

JDs Angel- glad to hear you got a letter. it is so difficult to hear when our loved one(s) are unhappy so far away from home. Hopefully he'll heal quickly and get to phase 3 Physical Therapy so he can at least feel like he's making forward progress. When my sailor was in RCU he said that he had to "sneak" to do sit ups and push ups but did it because he didn't want to fall further behind physically. Keep sending him those happy thoughts and some funny stuff, either way, whether he's down or upbeat, he'll know that you there and sending good vibes his way.

I finally got my first letter from my SR since moving to Ship 6. He hates it there, says it's not only the ship for RCU but also for the miscreants, misfits, and those who failed their swimming. It's harder and easier than a regular division too because while he's having a bit more rest, things are a bit more.... difficult. He says out of RCU that training is a privileged rather than a necessity too. My SR is really not happy there and I've sent him as much happiness as I could. He called me on my birthday (paid for it in pushups and situps too), which was nice. He had a doc appointment on Monday but I don't know what the outcome was. Hopefully his legs have started healing. He wants to get into phase 3 physical therapy (which means he'll be able to do some stuff like firefighting and at least take his test 3). He's so close and yet so far. He's worried that he'll be like the other guys with stress fractures who have been there for over 150 days. *sigh*

Karen, I'm right there with you. Playing this waiting game is very hard. No news is good news when our guys are in RCU isn't very comforting! LOL!

Ughhh, TN Navy Mom, I cringe every time the phone rings! I never know if it's going to be Chris on the other end, and if it is him, I don't know if it's going to be good news, or bad news, or just to say hello? He had a dr appt on Mon. and I havn't heard anything from that so far, so I'm assuming no news is good news! Thanks for thinking of him.

Karen - crossing my fingers for a letter tomorrow. I remember very well the mailbox races from our house and the heart pounding panic when the phone rang. I hope all is going well with your recruit and that his heel is getting better and he's a little more upbeat.

No new news from my son today. I was hoping to find a letter in the mail today, but I didn't. Maybe tomorrow?

My son was also dehydrated with the pnuemonia because he couldn't eat or drink. They ended up transporting him to the VA Hospital and was put on an IV for fluids and meds. It worked though! I was sooo glad when he called me on Sunday! I think the stress and exhaustion does cause then to break down. I really didn't expect that he would have to go through all this.

I wasn't convinced when I got off the phone with the girl at Public Affairs, so I called again and got someone different this time. She said to send my sons mail to Div 2341 also. She said he should eventually get the mail we've been sending, but it will take longer to find him. My poor son has been there for almost 2 wks and hasn't gotten any of the mail we've sent him. Ughhh! Apparently the rest of the address my son gave me was correct, but I had the wrong Div.

mrssauce - my son too had pneumonia BUT they didn't know until after he'd finished BS (was in RCU for his knee) kept coughing and chest exray showed 2 spots on his lung and was sent for more testing and found out, yep, pneumonia and had probably had it most of the time he was in boot. The close quarters, the "Ricky Crud" and the exhaustion wears them down so those pesky germs attack. Hoping he's mending well and will be back in a Division soon.

mrssauce60, I'm sorry to hear about your son coming down w/ pnuemonia. But glad to hear he should be back in a Div by Sept. 2nd. I've read a lot about recruits getting pnuemonia in there. Makes me wonder about all the jerms that must be in that place. I sent you a friend request. Maybe our sons know each other. I called the Public Affairs Office, and they said the address I have was good and he should be getting my mail soon. She said the Div didn't really matter as long as I was sending it to ship 6 and had the correct street address. So I don't know? Hopefully he starts getting it soon.
