Well, she's settling in.  Moved into her apartment a week or two ago & bought a car, which she gets later this week.  Starting to make arrangements for her household goods to be delivered, though she thinks it'll still be at least another month, if not more.

She is learning her "neighborhood" & the local places.  I'm pleased to say she "feels safe" and is loving the view, the weather & opportunities.  She's had a few very rough bumps, but gotten through them.

She switched to night shift a few days ago, so we've gotten to talk for 2-3 hours this week.  It's been so awesome.

For those interested -- Viber app has worked great for us.  Texting, group texting and phone calls.  It doesn't work great for her & her bf, tho (don't know why), so they use some skype app for their phone calls.    She's using her Sprint cell (which Sprint unlocked cuz she's active duty) & using SIM cards from each country she visits.  The Italian cell service is Vodafone & has been working pretty well, as far as i know.

peace to all!!

Welcome MattsMom- This group isn't the most active but I always have hope.  I'm glad your son is enjoying Sigg.  My son is a Bee there.  He has been doing security for the last few months but he hope to be back in the shop soon.  We use Skype frequently and he has called using Magic Jack a couple of times.  We also use Facebook a lot!! It helps to be able to be in frequent contact.  I cope by trying to stay busy so I don't miss him and when I do I message him till he relents and Skypes me.  Make sure you remember the time difference when you call or message.  We've blown up his FB messenger a few times (Birthday/ Christmas/ New Years) By messaging him in what for him is the middle of the night.  He has finally learned to turn his phone off at night though.

Hi everyone. My son has been in Sigonella since March and loves it! He is air traffic control and couldn't be happier. He just bought a car (picks it up tomorrow) Apparently there is a Facebook page for NAVY based there and it sounds like the sellers have to go through some type of "vetting" process in order to sell. As far as communicating we have been using an app called Voxofon. It seems to work pretty well but I wouldn't mind trying Viber. We have skyped as well and that is the best; I love seeing his face. I miss him terribly but it is comforting to know he is happy and doing what he wants to do and worked so hard for! How is everyone else coping with there loved one so far away?

my bee has an I phone but we do not so we skype.  Hubby didn't do FB either till our sailor was in.  It is the easiest way to keep up.  She'll have to get internet service once she gets settled in for either Face time or FB or Skype to work for her. My bee hasn't been on so I don't know what he does for cell but he switched to T-Mobile before BC and it was a HUGE mistake for him.  He had an employee discounted account w/ sprint but didn't listen to anyone back then about anything!

Thanks belovedbyHim!!  Hubby doesn't have FB, so we'll have to decide on a different method for our group messaging, but that's something to keep in mind, if our DD gets FB back before she leaves.

Anything you can find out about his cell service would be great.  If she can have an iphone over there, we could facetme.

Hi Jn/JfMom- We skype or message via FB.  I know he has a local cell service and I'll try and remember and find out who it is.

Hi belovedbyHim -- I'm so glad there are a few members of this group that are active!!

Would you mind telling me (finding out??) what phone service your Bee has AND how you two contact each other the most?

My DD & i text almost every day and we were just talking about how that may change.  We both have Viber, but don't know if there are better alternatives out there, and we have NO idea about phones for her over there.

thanks for any help or tips you can give us!!

peace & joy to you

Hello all, My Bee has been there a little over a year now. Sadly he has been TAD to security and not able to be in the shop like he had hoped.  I just found this page and look forward to getting to know others who have kids over there.
