Queen, yes, those tears will almost always come by surprise. My sailor and I were visiting in Maryland this month and we attended church with my mom. Of course, we were introduced by the pastor and after service was over, many came over to thank him. He was in his dress blues, makes me so proud when he tells people he doesn't even know that he is proud to serve. He will always be my shy one but is getting better about being polite. Buy stock in Kleenex and make the crying pay. LOL.

I am normally not a person who cries over everything. Today however in church our pastor had all those who are or have served stand up for Veterans Day. He made sure to include Kris. As soon as the first person we didn't know came over to thank him for making the decision to serve I started to tear up. I am so proud of our sons and daughter. The tears were a surprise though. I'm sure there will be more over the next 6 month. Do they always catch you by surprise?

I am from Midland and my son has been in Bootcamp for 3 weeks now.  I got my first letter this week. So now I am looking forward to my first phone call.

justinmom  I have a new N4M friend who's son just graduated and is going to San Antonio.  Not sure what the rules are on leave before school starts up, but maybe you could "adopt" him for Thanksgiving, or the Sunday dinner afterwards. I too have heard that the food is good on Thanksgiving Day... but maybe later in the weekend (to watch Sunday Football maybe?) and eat leftovers? LOL!  We have always celebrated all weekend long, not just Thursday!

Mine would go only if it were in a group of sailors.

Cece seven years wow that has got to be hard on you not getting to see your son during the holidays.  You are right a "real" family-type gathering would be great.  Wish I was close enough to a base to invite some of our military to my house.  My son would be the "too shy" one that would not go to someone's house if he didn't already know them.

Comment by Cece on November 11, 2011 at 12:55pm

My son has only been home once in the 7 years he's been in!  I know they do have celebrations, however it is always nice to be asked to a "real" family-type gathering., if you're not too shy!  :)
