USS Bataan LHD-5

Group for family members of Sailors who are on the USS Bataan (LHD-5)

Members: 144
Latest Activity: Aug 25, 2019

I decided to start this group to see who else may have a Sailor on this ship; or heading to this ship.

Granted, we may be a bit limited to what we can discuss openly online, but if nothing else, may be a good way to connect and network off-line as well.

Make sure to not disclose advance ship movements or other OPSEC issues.

My son is an FC2 on this ship.

Dear Navy Friends,

If you have a Masonic Lodge in your community they collect $,s for calling cards. They may have to come from your Masonic state's headquarters.  DC is the Grand lodge of all... I received one for our Sailor, it may be worth a try.... Please do not let them say they only send them to troops who are in Iraq etc,  not on ships.  I stood my ground  and told them what our Sailors are doing is just as important. They sent it directly to me and then I sent it on... It maybe worth a try, as it is only a phone call, and many of your relatives may be Mason's... If you need more info,, friend me & I will try and help you.... Our Sailor had ATT with one of those fancy MAC I phones and the wanted $6.00 per minute, so we just suspended it.. Getting it put on hold was like getting an act of Congress tho, and as you all know these days that is not easy!! :-)  Take care & God Speed to all !!

How much does that cost to use your cell phone?   I herd it was expensive but I think it might be worth it.

My son has never called me, when he left email was all he thought we needed.  I think maybe I should get him a calling card.  I sure would like to hear his voice.

I did get an email from him.   He bought some mufflers for his car that he said was being shiped home.  Played some basketball which he loves to play.  He said a little more practice would help.lol    He never says a whole lot just a couple of lines, so a phone call would be good.   But I don't know, he would called his friends instead of me.      (i just miss him a lot)

So how long before they get to take leave when they return? I'm with Sandra, i'm just thinking way ahead, if he gets to come home pretty soon after their return then i may not go to the homecoming, i just gotta save some money if i do go to the homecoming. I don't fly so im trying to figure things out.

Sandra your not alone we really need some cooler weather and rain to go with it.  We still have tripple digits here in Mo.   Our crops need rain bad!!!

Since we know the date when there comming home when should we start making plans for reservations and such.   I herd once they set a date it most likely wont change, but I know there is a possibility.  I'm just getting a head start on the party planning of him coming home.  Gives me something better to think about.
