USS Bataan LHD-5

Group for family members of Sailors who are on the USS Bataan (LHD-5)

Members: 144
Latest Activity: Aug 25, 2019

I decided to start this group to see who else may have a Sailor on this ship; or heading to this ship.

Granted, we may be a bit limited to what we can discuss openly online, but if nothing else, may be a good way to connect and network off-line as well.

Make sure to not disclose advance ship movements or other OPSEC issues.

My son is an FC2 on this ship.

Do you know how hard it is to get anything out of my son.   LOL

I hope we get a letter or do we need to call?

@Sandra AM Mom - the "big meeting" was talking about their return, but you have to talk to your sailor or call the ombudsmen to get the skinny on that. Posting it on here would be an OPSEC violation

Well ladies, my sailor is officially off the USS Bataan. I would just like to thank you all for all the advice and the comfort that I received on this site. I sure have loved having people that know what I am going through to vent, cry, laugh, and chit chat with. I am still praying for a safe and QUICK deployment for you all, and will probably keep checking this site because it is now part of my daily routine.

I have not been reunited with my sailor yet. :( He was delayed a couple times off the ship, had his flight from Spain to Norfolk cancelled and rescheduled for the next day, and is working on getting everything in order for terminal leave. Once that is done we are done with the Navy! He didn't want me to spend the money on the flight to go to VA since he should be home within 2 weeks.

Again thanks all the support and advice! It was a pleasure!

Stephanie, If you're looking to rent a house there are a few area's in Virginia Beach that are nice and have good schools. I LOVE my neighborhood and the school district is GREAT! I live in a subdivision called Coventry, in the Kempsville area. A few other good subdivisions around here are Salem Woods and Glenwood. The neighborhoods are nice and peaceful and have a lot of kids. We live in walking distance to the Elementary school Rosemont Forest.... I'm not a huge fan of Norfolk, to be honest there are a few nice areas but A lot of bad ones too and the schools aren't the best. This is our third time being stationed here... I work in Chesapeake and I know the Hickory and Great Bridge schools are great and there are a few good neighborhoods that I know of but I'm not that familiar with a lot of that area... I'm not sure what your husbads Rank is but the BAH here isn't that high and a lot of the houses are a bit pricey for rent... We pay $200 more than my hubbys bah in rent plus utilities. But for the neighborhood and schools it's worth it.... 100% possitive we won't retire here LOL Don't get me wrong it's not a bad place but everyone has their idea of "home" and for us this just isn't it.

ok Joro, I know your most likely not a realtor(that would be CRAZY if you were, lol) BUT are there any neighborhoods in particular that you recommend in Norfolk or Virginia Beach or any areas that I should probably stay away from when we are ready to rent or buy?
