Hello All - I'm new to this page and to this group and thought I should tell you all a bit about myself. I have 3 kids. My oldest son, a Marine. My middle child (another boy) is my Sailor. He's an…Continue

Cathy - have a wonderful time celebrating!
The trip for your son/friends sounds wonderful.
I am typing from Norfolk.....awaiting Katie to get off duty. Joe (21 yr old son) and I got a flight out last night for a 2-day trip. Joe is the only one who hasn't been out to see Katie, the base and her ship.
Hi Sharon! Still around :-)
Looking forward to the weekend! It's been a long, crazy, busy week at work. We will be celebrating my son DJ's (Derrick Jr) birthday tomorrow night. We are going out to dinner at the Melting Pot (a fondue restaurant). I've never been, but he says it's fun. His birthday is actually March 10, but he and his girlfriend and his cousin and his girlfriend are taking a trip to Venice, Rome, and Monte Carlo on March 7. He'll be celebrating his 30th birthday in Venice!!! I'm so excited for them...can't wait to see pictures!!!
Oh, and by the way...30!?!?!?! How did that happen so quickly!?! His girlfriend is throwing him a surprise party March 23. Should be lots of fun! I just wish my sailor could be there!
Enjoy your weekend! Take care!
Hi everyone, just checking in to say hello. Glad the marines are ok after the crash (the 31st MEU shared an update on fb). Not sure if our kids are ever gonna get a port visit! BHR has been sharing terrific pictures! Talked to a young lady I know who is on a ship based in Norfolk, and they don't even have a fb page, let alone ever take pictures. Can't imagine that! With the long distance to our sailors, I am very grateful for the communication and photos we are able to have. priceless. Jesse continues to communicate with me, fb email and even two calling cards he found (of course you know our Jesse, the first one had 60 seconds on it! lol but the second one had about 15 mins)
TGIF Moms! a big thank you to navy mom and friend Lynn for letting me know today is national margarita day! Might have to find one of those somewhere tonight! Hope you're all doing well!!
Kim - It is wonderful to hear from you and get an updated on your son. I remember you saying that he was going to change to Legalman. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for him. So glad that you were able to visit them in San Diego and experience all the Japanese things with them. Any idea where Jonathan will be after his training or will he be able to stay in SD?
Katie is scheduled for deployment this summer, but.........who knows what all the fall out will be with the budget cuts.......
I'm still a member of this group after my son left almost two years ago. I read every post and would hate to lose contact with any of you.
Sharon, if you recall my son's time was up March/April 2011and he had saved vacation to spend with his fiance's family before heading stateside. Then the tsunami hit. His dates changed a lot.
My son is re-enlisting soon and cross rating to Legalman. He will be going to school for 3 months in Rhode Island. His wife has been working and saving money because she wants to visit her family in Sasebo while he is gone. I suggested that they find someone responsible to stay in their house and look after their cat instead of paying fees.
We visited them in San Diego last month and ate at the Japanese restaurant where she works. It is called "Sushi Time" in Lemon Grove. They also took us shopping in the Japanese market (great prices) and she cooked us a couple Japanese meals. I love shabu shabu and found the pot to cook it on Amazon.
I can pass on any questions that you new moms have about Sasebo or shopping for Japanese items in San Diego.
Are you surprised Sharon ?!?
Ditto! Please all stay!!!
Wow is right...Sharon! April 16 is right around the corner. Very exciting!
Received an mail from Josh this morning. Short and sweet. Says he has been really, really busy and no chance to respond to emails. And will contact me next port. I was a little bit worried about him so it was good to hear from him this morning :-)
Take care!
