Hi thesuperm72 - here's some info I posted on previous Truman deployments.  It's straight from USPS and should answer most of your shipping questions.  As to how long packages take, well that's anyone's guess lol!  It could be a couple of weeks to a month.  Don't send anything that is irreplaceable because you just never know.  Also, if you send any liquids put them in separate zip lock bags.  Also, you should line your entire box inside with a trash bag - put everything in and then seal it up.  It's not uncommon for someone else's box to have liquids in it and spring a leak and run all over your box.  Don't take the chance.  And use lots of tape to seal it up - more is better!

Here's the link to the USPS "Click & Ship".  You can get free boxes/tape etc. from them too.

My sailor girl started on the Truman after graduating nuke school in August. This is her 1st deployment, so I have a question and I'm sure I'll have more in the future! I had a question regarding sending care packages while they're deployed. I have her address info and email already.

1. Are there size box restrictions that we need to follow?

2. Are there restrictions on what they can receive?

3. How long does it take for them to receive a package?

I'm super excited to be joining this group and supporting each other. NFMs has been the BEST in receiving support and encouragement on this journey so far!

Happy Friday to you all! I'm wearing my blue Navy Mom sweatshirt as my son's basketball team is playing a school that's color is red and he said I couldn't wear red today! LOL! Have a great weekend!

Yes, finding people to sign off on his quals could be a problem but he needs to be persistent!  And yes, he might just be venting to you - that's ok though - let him vent.  But tell him not to give up no matter how frustrating it gets.

B'sNukeMom, thank you so much for explaining this to me.  My son has only mentioned it a couple times. I know I am a sounding board for him, I just worry how much of this is just venting and if any of it is a real problem.  He mentioned having trouble finding people to sign off on his quals.  I guess that's a common problem?

ShellyMarie - your son is a nuke, correct?  Even after they get to their ship (or sub) they will continue to have qualifications.  It's a never ending learning process.  When they graduate nuke school they are a "Qualified Nuclear Reactor Operator" but then they have to requalify on the actual carrier.  So much to learn and do.  He could be having difficulty getting the time to work on his qualifications - he'll still have his job to do along with working on quals.  I don't remember the timeline to complete quals but it is a fairly good amount of time.  Best you can do is just keep reminding him that he made it this far and he can do this!  Let him know it's not like there is a finish line - it's just a never ending learning process lol!

Continue to offer up love and support and he'll get through this.  Being his sounding board is probably one of the best things you can do for him.  Hang in there!

I'm was wondering if someone could answer a few questions for me.  My son is having trouble with qualifications.  I'm not sure what that means, and if anyone has any suggestions on how I can help or be supportive.
