Hi Travelsalot, my son didn't know either that families were allowed on the ship, until I seen several families leaving the ship with their sailor. I was too scard to take out my phone I wasn't sure if I could take pictures for security reasons, but I did take some before he got on the ship.

Hello Everyone, I thank GOD, that I had the privilege of touring the ship and helping my son get unpacked today. I don't know if this was a good thing or a bad thing, because I didn't want to leave. I know that he is nervous, but he will be okay. I've cried a few times, but in all honesty it hasn't hit me yet. I flew in from Atlanta, GA on Saturday to spend a little time with him and to help him tighten up some loose ends since this is his first deployment. I'll keep everyone in my prayers.

allyj31, I felt the same way! I tried to be strong to not let him hear my shaky voice and lump in my throat as I talked...It was difficult. And I kept thinking of things I needed to say but wasn't sure how to say them. Kind of like I felt when he 1st left for boot camp. But I did not cry until I hung up. Then I bawled like a baby! I know he is nervous but trying to be strong. I will not only be praying for my son but for all the sailors as well! "LOVE is stronger than distance"

My sailor is locked in on the boat.  The last phone call a few minutes ago was so tough...as you all know.  Let's all try hard to keep up our spirits and be positive.  We can do this, they can do this.  Let's all have a big group hug in a few months when they are home!  (((hugs to all)))!

Just texted my son one last time before he had to board the ship. Talked to him a little earlier and it was awkward. I felt like I needed to say so much, but I couldn't think of much to say. This is much harder than I initially thought it would be. Feeling very sad....

Hello, I am new here too. It's been a pretty rough day. My daughter is driving home to Pennsylvania having just said goodbye to her husband. Their one month anniversary is Tuesday, so I know she will be a mess when she gets home. Any advice on what we can do to make this easier for her?

Luckily she is in her last year of college and starting an apprenticeship within a week or two. We are going down in April to find them an apartment/house so they are all set up when he returns.

I too will be saying prayers for a safe and speedy return.

This has been a rough day. I am not usually a weepy mess, but today that is all I am. Trying to stay strong, but today is a tough one. I am looking forward to staying in to touch on this board to gain strength from the other moms. I will keep all of them in my prayers as they are all together on this. I know they are well trained and prepared for this.
