True DebP, most of the people that come to the homecomings live there, and just a few come in, but no one is alone, I think the excitement of being HOME HOME HOME sweeps up on everyone! I know the local news covers the homecoming, and I think you can see it online. I ran into another sailor today that is waiting for his buddy to come in on the OA. I actually don't know when they are coming in, but I guess I will find out tomorrow at the FRG gathering. Jenismer, my daughter wanted to go to Japan, was disappointed that a clerk messed up the orders for about 20 people that didn't get it, but I am 'secretly' glad it didn't happen. I surely had NO idea I would miss her this much, this is only the 2nd deployment, so maybe it gets easier??

Hi DebP. We won't be there for the homecoming either. We will be seeing our son in two weeks though, so that helps. I'm sure there will be many others who won't have family there. Some people just can't get the time off to make the trip. My son usually stays on duty when they get back in, so that others who have family there can spend time with them. Don't worry. He really won't be alone! Plus, I'm sure he'll call you as soon as he gets a chance. I usually get a phone call very shortly after the ship comes in. :)

I am on my way to the homecoming now, I think it is so true that it is harder for us here than them on the ship! I was at the first homecoming because I was on the ship on the Tiger cruise. That deployment was a short one, but it was sweet to see the little kids and how excited they were to see their sailor coming back to them. I was struck by the month old infant meeting their dad for the first time. Pretty sure my sailor will be the last one off the ship! I will be among the many taking pictures!

This will be the first homecoming we've been able to attend. This is his 4th and last deployment. Just wasn't possible for us to get to Japan prior to their arrival. But we did make it 3 days later. It was awesome. I understand the guilty feelings. I'm sure most of us do. But then something will happen to make up for it.

Hi Deb. It is cool to see the ship come in, but he will be out again and longer, which will be better to be at that one. Yes he will "live" on the ship. As Jes said he WILL be able to call. He will be able to use his phone to text, call, FB or whatever as long as they are docked. It goes fast for them. My son has been in for almost 5 years with one to go and has been out on duty twice. Two other times it was only for a month(training). He actually LOVES being on the ship. He likes the water, sees places AND he saves a lot of money he says. This last one was 9 months, and I think he was ready to have it end about month 6 or 7 though. It is worse on the people at home than them, trust me.
