I heard breifly back from my sailor. Said they were not at the same port. Would call me in about 2 to 3 weeks. Hopefully everything is okay....I can't wait until they come home.
Forgot - travel: we had six people, so we rented a mini van - which by splitting 6 ways was very cheap. we went thru one of the major car rentals at the airport. Can't remember which one. Check them out on line and find the best price. Good luck!
We just went there last June and stayed in a Military hotel. Very reasonable prices. Hale Koa Hotel. We paid about $130.00 a night - which is cheap in Hawaii. BUT you have to have your sailor check you in with their military id. But it was well worth it. We were right on Wakiki Beach. Restaurants, stores, and alot of things right there. The stores on the property were very reasonable and no taxes - Military. Another place you can buy food pretty reasonable is there on the navy base in their stores. (like PXs - not what it is called) Your sailor can buy food at a good price for you. That is where we stocked up. It is beautiful there - you will love it. I am ready to go back - except too expensive to fly.
Morning everyone I need your help. We will be visiting your son soon when his ship gets in from deployment.
This trip is going to be expensive so we're looking for way to cut expenses.
I heard it's cheaper to rent a not so new (1-3 years old) car from small local rental places instead of the big name agencies.
I've also heard that food is a major expense. We will be staying somewhere we can cook so we plan on buying grocieries.
I heard there is a Sam's Club near Pearl but we may not need to buy in such bulk. A friend who was been to Hawaii many times suggested buying food here and checking it as luggage.
That what they did and he said the cost to ship is worth the savings on food. They packed steaks, shrimp etc. in dry ice in an ice chest. He said you'll spend several hundred dollar per week otherwise just to eat.
He also said do and go to the non-tourist things to save money yet have a great experience.
I would appreciate any input you guys have from your trips or anyone who lives there and knows better. Thanks!
Skyped with our son twice Wed. What a treat to be woken up at 0530. lol So good to see his face. I pray things do not escalate in Korea so our sailors stay safe and on schedule.
Has anyone heard from their sailor? Mine called once yesterday morning but have not heard back from her since. She said she would call me later.
Just checking.
Thanks Dee. I finally heard from her this morning. She said their internet had been down. She finally received my emails - wishing her Happy Birthday and telling her about her 2 new nephews. So glad to hear from her.
