My son was sent to the RCU unit on 3.8.21 for having an inhalant in his medical record for treatment of bronchitis/pleurisy when he was 15 yrs old.

Would someone be kind enough to explain the process he is going through, who is doing any evaluations, and what his chances are for being retained in the Navy?

My son contacted me Tuesday to say he was sent to RCU for the flu and his graduation date is now pushed back. a few questions:

1. Do they always return to a group or division on a set day, I mean.. like do they "discharge" every Tuesday... or is it on a case by case basis?

2. Are they all always allowed to call on Sunday's and give updates?

3. Anyone else's child or husband been sent for flu? He had no voice when he called to tell me he was sent to RCU ...

I guess I'm just worried about him, I hate not knowing daily now what is happening. I finally just got comfortable and he was 16 days away from PIR and then this happens to him.
Vision Waivertag:navyformoms.ning.com,2019-10-03:1971797:Topic:106582662019-10-03T00:21:15.965ZProudmomofsailor79https://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/Proudmomofsailor79
My son was just transferred to Ship 4 as he didn’t pass his vision exam on intake. He did require a vision waiver when he went through MEPS. They are now requesting another waiver. Does anyone have any experience with the vision/medical waiver process? How often it’s approved? How long the process generally takes?
Appreciate any insight or information.

We got a call Tuesday 9/17 from our son that he was being set back 2-4 weeks because of a broken pinky finger that had happened 10 days prior. He was beginning week 4. We are beyond worried because he was doing so well and actually enjoying BC. My husband just told me that our SR called him this morning while he was asleep, but he didn't leave a message. It was 7:43 AM which is way earlier than he has ever called in the past. I just want to know how he is doing and how long this is going to…

So I heard from my son and found out what happened. He said that the second night he was there, he had a couple episodes of sudden muscle spasms and legs starting to give out. Later that night, he got up to go to the bathroom - said he took his time getting up - then the muscle spasms again and blacked out, falling on his nose. Messed up his nose and front teeth. Now, he is continuing to have what he called “mini blackouts” where his muscles twitch and everything goes black for a couple seconds. He has a neurology consult but it isn’t until September 3 but if he’s still having symptoms, he’ll most likely be separated. I imagine he probably has a concussion and it almost sounds like some type of seizure activity. This has never happened to him before. He’s so upset. At the beginning of the call, he said they’re trying to get him back into training. Then later he said he’ll most likely be separated if these blackouts keep happening. By the end of the call, he was crying that he just wants to come home. He says it is just so depressing where he's at - so much worse than the actual boot camp side (I know, he was only there a day or two before moving to ship 4). My heart is breaking. He wanted this so badly and he sounded just so...defeated.
Scripted call on P-day 1 or 2.tag:navyformoms.ning.com,2019-08-18:1971797:Topic:106281352019-08-18T13:08:08.523Zbethvac65https://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/bethvac65

My son arrived at boot camp the night of August 13 and at 5:30 on August 15, I received the dreaded scripted call "Do not come to my graduation, I will note be there. I am sick/injured and will be given a new graduation date". That's it. First of all, I had never even been given an official graduation date - he had just arrived! I hadn't even gotten his box yet.

The next morning, August 16, I received a phone call from someone wanting to schedule a neurology consult for my son. I explained that he is in boot camp and she said "oh no - I called the wrong number". She was supposed to be calling RTC but saw my number first. I tried to press her for information but, due to HIPAA, she was not very forthcoming. First she said he had a headache. Then, it sounded like that was just her opinion so I pressed her further. She then said something about "weak" and he "fell". I asked "did he pass out?" and she said "yeah..." but there was a bit of a language barrier so I am not 100% sure that this was all accurate.

So now my imagination is running wild. How could he have passed out when he had only just arrived? Aren't they basically just doing paperwork at that time? Good grief, if he passes out from doing paperwork, what is going to happen when he starts training? I should mention that nothing like this has happened to him before. He is not a star athlete by any means but he had the 1.5 mile run down to 11:30 before he left, with very little effort. Had his push ups and sit ups where they should be. He is not overweight (5'11" 145 lbs). I know he does not eat right - loves junk food, hates fruit and vegetables. He can actually go an entire day without eating and not think twice about it because he "just wasn't hungry". If he actually did pass out, I think it was probably due to not eating / dehydration.

But then why the neurology consult? That seems like overkill, unless he hit his head and has a concussion or lingering headache. This not knowing is KILLING me. He sounded good on the phone and when I asked if he was ok, he said yes. But I'm terrified that he will end up separated - and that will break his heart. Also, who knows how long it will take to get the neurology consult? The longer he sits around, the worse his running time will be. I'd hate for him to fail his initial PFA because he sat around in Ship 4 and became deconditioned.

If you read all of this - thank you! I'm a nervous, rambling mama! Today is Sunday so I am praying to hear something from him.
Scripted call from SR - Don't Come to Graduation - I'm sicktag:navyformoms.ning.com,2019-07-24:1971797:Topic:106112812019-07-24T15:43:28.770ZTiffanyhttps://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/Tiffany251

Last night I received a call from my SR that I wasn’t looking forward to and need some serious advice and encouragement. I’ll call you in a few days and let you know if I’m being separated. Before hanging up I told him to stay strong and don’t give up maybe something else caused the chest pain. I could hear the disappointment in his voice.

He hasn’t had any issues at home while running or any other activities or working out in general, he even did Battle Frog with no issues. He's not a "professional athlete" by any means and I am sure boot camp is a bit harder.

Does anyone know how he would be diagnosed and what makes them decide to send him home? I’m thinking maybe he could be getting sick or exhausted or maybe pushing himself too hard or possibly different climate than here (Texas) or he possibly has an allergy he wasn't aware of... just curious how they will determine the outcome.
