Hi Navy moms,

I've been asked to be the mom of the month for November.  I prefer to think of it as the Group of the Month since it's a group effort.   We will be packing for 250 males and 3 Females.  Let's make this Christmas so magical for them!

The theme for this packing party is CHRISTMAS!  We'll be packing individual boxes for the sailors.  (These boxes are the size of a DVD box) so we need to get small size items to put in them. Example:  playing cards, stress balls, chap sticks, small size toys.   I will be bringing christmas wrapping paper.

Let's make sure we put a smile on their faces!!!!

Good Morning!

Just seen this group!  I am also a Conn. Navy Mom.

Anyone with a SR graduating 9/27?

@ Valtameri, I hope you will consider joining MAS.  The holiday project is a great cause too.  But we can always use help throughout the year.

Donna, you'd figure it out and do just fine I'm sure!  I've just been involved with Molly's since I joined N4Ms about 6 years ago.  Wow, that's a long time!  But I've learned a lot along the way.  And you will too ... just wait and see!  :)

Donna,  what would I do with out you!  Your priceless!!

Comment by Valtameri on September 10, 2013 at 8:15pm

I was asking because my Girl Scout troop always does the N4Ms Holiday Project, and I was excited that this might be related.

I think it's great that there will be a packing party here in our state, and I would like to attend, but since the other project overlaps this one in time, I will have to say "maybe" until I get some details ironed out.

Hi Donna & Valtameri!  Excuse me for jumping in to your discussion.

The N4Ms annual Holiday Project is a totally separate group within N4M.  From my understanding these moms do a holiday project only.

Molly's Adopt a Sailor (aka MAS) is also a separate group within N4M.  However, the moms involved with MAS adopt a different forward deployed group every single month!!  We are also involved in supplying needed items to 2 Combat Support Hospitals in the sandbox.  So there is a lot going on in that group.  If you join that group I highly recommend you read the discussion, link to a post, whatever, for new members, it'll help you find your way.  There are also a group of MAS Moms who sew pillowcases (separate from the group Heads at Ease who do pillowcases also).

The MAS motto is:  "We Ship Love."  And will expire only when all our deployed are back home.

The groups adopted by MAS are submitted by officers, chaplains or the most senior enlisted person involved with the group.  We adopt all branches of the military, not just Navy.  Also, it is a registered non-profit group (Moms pooled their $$s and paid the fees to become a 501(c)(3).

No one makes any salary - everyone is volunteer!  And that includes the attorney and CPA we have to have!!  Pro bono all the way.  We are the ONLY group in the country supporting our military that can make the claim that 100% of the money we raise goes back to our troops!!!

Also, according to our by-laws, no MAS Mom can submit their child's ship, unit, division, etc. for adoption.  We know that there are many, many members of our military who never receive a letter let alone a care package (for whatever reasons), and these are the ones we hope to reach through our adoptions.

So, @Donna, no the mission for your packing party is not a N4M project or the group "Annual Holiday Project".  The mission is unique to the MAS group and is a totally separate thing.

Good question Valtameri.  I hope I gave everyone a better understanding of the Molly's Adopt A Sailor group.  It really is a great group to be a part of.  Moms from across the country all working together to grant the items on the wish lists every month.  Of course, the holiday adoption (November's mission) is special and will include whatever surprises the Mom of the Month (aka MoM) thinks up.  The adoption is for November because shipping will take place in November in order to reach whomever in time for the holidays. Make sense?

Sorry for the long comment!  Have a great time at your party.  I'm hoping to come, but I may be moving away before then, so only time will tell...

Hugs to you all!
