Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Iluvangels-My son just had to choose to workout (he's been so stubborn since he signed his contract in Jan). He decided to get into shape so he can score in the good range on his PT scores. He says he wants to be able to hold his own physically at bootcamp. My son chose a date in Feb to begin P90x. He actually lost about 20# (he wasn't that overweight to begin with) but he's very proud of his biceps & chest. He was always so tall and lanky:) His younger brother is a workout nut & is in the army national guard so he keeps his brother motivated. He's just not into running & since it's gotten so hot outside, he says he definitely won't be running:)

Hi There,
I have been away from this for a bit because I was having such a hard time with the fact my son is leaving me !! I am ''OK'' with it now... I have had long discussions with his recruiter and my son that this is what HE wants.. and I just basically need to support this decision.

Thanks, Carole. I guess I was hoping for a miracle and that he would do it on his own. LOL

Hello everyone. I've been MIA for a about a month and a half. We were on our annual road trip back east to see family. I have a question for you. Adam is really excited about going in October, but it's like pulling teeth to get him to work out. He only has DEP meetings once a month and I'm really afraid that he will be really out of shape. My dd's bf is coming in town in August (he is on a Navy sub) and has offered to work out with him. We have a fitness center in one of the recs here, but he doesn't want to work out by himself. Any ideas on how to motivate him. He's not really in bad shape, but since his high school sports are now over, he is not working out as much as he was before.

Thank you Michelle and Carole for being here for all of us. I started a Boot camp countdown on My Page but I don't know how to do it here. It is really nice to see the days falling off. My son is going to the Dep meetings and working out with the recruits once a week. Have a great 4th of July everyone. Kathy

I know October is coming faster than I think, but it still seems pretty distant to me:) My son really hadn't been very physically fit prior to signing his contract. He started doing p90x w/his younger brother a couple of months ago which has helped his push-up and sit-up #s. Now that summer is approaching, he's thinking of starting to run.

Hi, my name is Kathy and my son leaves for boot camp on October 25th 2010. Nice to meet all of you. I have been exploring N4M's for the past couple of weeks and finding out lots of information. Maybe we could all meet on chat sometime and talk about our children and what we are doing to prepare for our kids leaving for BC. Maybe just to talk about our concerns.
