Hi, StaceyB. When the sailors have liberty during PIR weekend, they have to stay within a 50 mile radius of the base. Once he reports to A school, things loosen up a bit, but I don't think he will be able to be very far from the base at first; they have to phase up. Not sure how long that takes. And Julie was absolutely right about taking the Metra if you go into the City after PIR. We drove, and it took us 3 hours to get to Chicago. By the time we got there, we had no time to do anything. Have a wonderful time at your son's PIR.

Penny, You are just fine the way you are. Some people get thier bussel in a knot so to speak. We are here to comfort and cheer each other. And I don't think you were asking nor telling any inofrmation out of school. You should read other sites. Any way. Just keep up being who you are and we will all help where we can. I love this site evan if I don't get on as often as I like. My sasilor Rob gets amassed at what I have learned from all of the moms, sometimes I know before he does.
Love to you all. AND keep the lite heartedness coming..People are SO serious any more.

Hi all I haven't been writting for a while but have been reading. It is great to hear all of the stories about our brave young men and women, although in my heart they will always be our children.
it is getting to be FALL in Michigan and the colors up here in the thumb are lovely. welcome to all of the new mom, congrat to your sailors and soon to be sailors. We are all here for you and support each other.
ruth V sorry I missed the outing it sounds like you all had a great time. I am up for the next one, just let me know where and when. It is about time I get out and see more of the state so west or North will work for me, have JEEP will travel.
robert is enjoying life in Georgia. He will be leaving on first deployment soon just can not know wher or when. i guess when I stop recieving the daily text I'll know he's out. It will be interesting to let tyou all know how he does on his first trip in the sub, all 6'5'' of him. Still don't know how he fits in them.
for those of you who have been on here for a long time, do you remember Tanya. she was from the anton area I think and her husband was in sub school when they moved to CT. Any way my point. Her husbband chris is now stationed in GA and on the same sub as Rob. they have had him over to their appt and are becoming good friend. So it makes me feel more connected. see how this site works IT GREAT.
Well have to get back to work. Hope to see you all soon.

Uli & Gloria, thank you! 1988 was a very good year. Not sure how much 'celebrating' Allen is going to be doing. He had to do security for the Miranda Lambert concert last night and complained that he wasn't going to be going out to celebrate. I reminded him that Sunday is his actual birthday and that he could always celebrate Sunday. Just has to be mindful of the fact that he has work on Monday. hehe! I will definitely be having a glass of 'my choice' later.

Brandy, that is some news. You are so right though that it is his decision and what he wants. It is going to be scary, but we will all be praying for you & him. Tell him he has our best wishes.

Just wanted to let you all know that today is my sailor's 21st Birthday! It is so hard to be away from him on such a special day, but know that his is doing well in Viriginia. It's also his father's birthday too. Nice birthday gift I gave him 21 yrs ago, huh? (grin)

My oldest daughter is in Sault Ste Marie attending LSSU for Nursing. Her drive is 338 from our home to her place - according to her, a short 5 hours - we live in Ypsilanti. Before our sailor Katie left for the Navy, she spent the summer with her sister. They both love the area - so do we. The UP is beautiful!

I guess GO BLUE can mean Navy as well as the ONLY University of Michigan that I will cheer for. LOL!!! Except when MSU plays against Notre Dame or Ohio State that is.grin

Cinnamon Roll fest sounds yummy to me! grin

Ladies, you are such a riot to read your comments back and forth. LOL! Sure hope that I have the chance someday to meet and greet you all. Sorry to have missed the last two get togethers.

Uli, I think a Jackson County get together would be great. If I can secure a job in Florida and time off, I will always have family in Michigan to 'bunk' with. I will keep tabs to see if there will be one.

Kathy B, I can't imagine having to deal with the DNR. When my father passed away it was so quick and Mom was with him. Thank God God was looking over and protecting them, because Dad was driving their van and Mom was able to stop and pull it over. You are still in my thoughts and prayers.
