Miss everyone on here! Hope your new sailors are doing well!!
Melissa74...so sorry you had such a bad trip. The worst part of ours was driving rather than flying, but now maybe that was a good thing? Just about anything was worth seeing our sailors, though. I've missed mine so much. But I'm so proud of the man he's become. Still can't believe you paid that much for a rental car. We only paid $229 and drove it over 2000 miles. We rented from Hertz, though. Will take your advice and stay away from Budget!
Good luck on your son's next adventure...where does he go for school?
just wanted to thank you all for your support and kind words throughout our journey at bootcamp. I am grateful for the advice we received on PIR and look forward to sharing our experiences. My son paid for and we received the photo's the day before we left for PIR, we will get the DVD in the mail when it's edited. I definitely recommend paying for the photo's and having them sent home prior to PIR, it saved us from standing in line at the NEX at RTC, along with 500+ other Sailors and their families, we traveled to the other NEX on base at Great Lakes Naval Station to do some shopping for our propoganda, we had been there with our military ID's when we got there on Thursday, so we already got we wanted, but it gave the grandparents time to do some shopping. We would definitely park at the train station again, it was a short walk in, and when PIR was over we traveled by train into to city, he wanted a steak for lunch. When we got back we drove him around to the other gate to check in, parked in the NEX lot and said good bye. We knew he was leaving at 12:30am for MDW and we are so very glad we got there at 1:30am, we brought donuts for them and helped talk them through what to take on the plane with them, we saw so many parents who didn't make it on time, thinking they had more time then they did to see them off, some were running phones in and barely got a hug outside before their Sailor had to leave. There was no clear direction as to where to go when we got there to say good bye, but when we walked in it was a sea of black, so we couldnt miss them, got our gate pass and hugged our Sailor for the last time as he boarded his flight to San Antonio. He made it safely to San Antonio and we made it home on earlier flight due to snow in Pa. So so so nice to have a connection with him again. Thank you again for all your support and the connection we shared throughout this journey, I look forward to continuing the relationships we've developed and supporting each other through the next step. I will check in here from time to time, but will focus on the 10.28 PIR graduates at A school in San Antonio and the Corpsman mom groups as well as FB. I can always be reached via PM. Warm wishes!
