Hello all from Texas! Great to see more activity. My son has been in Groton 2 years, on the Annapolis one year since A school. I was there last Oct for his graduation. He will be getting his dolphins soon and I hope I can fly up and see him pinned. He says sometimes they do it while they are underway. Don't they know us Moms would like to see it!

Hi All! I have not been on NVM in a long time so I thought I would drop in.  My son has been in the Navy over 2 years and on the USS Annapolis for about 6 months I think....Hope all is well with you all!

Hope your son has a great time in NYC. My son described this past winter as wet, cold and windy. Although he did say there was more sunshine than what we get here at home.

Thanks for the all the info. It sounds great. Son wanted Groton because girlfriend is working on Master's in Boston. But he does love all the outside activities. He is in Ballston Spa, NY right now and is taking his first trip to NYC Labor Day weekend. Has tickets for a Broadway show and the US Open tennis and can't wait to see the sights. We're anxious for a chance to visit him. Has your son heard anything about the winters there?

Groton was his first choice on the dream sheet. It wasn't for Groton itself but all the things to do when he wasn't working. You can hop a train and in an hour or so be in New York City or Boston. There are several state parks within a short driving distance for hiking or biking or the Thames for kayaking and fishing. He said the barracks for the boaters are decent with only two to a room with a kitchenette.

When you get the chance to visit your son in Groton there is a really nice Navy Lodge close to the base for $75 a night. A couple good places to visit are the Nautilus Museum and Mystic Seaport with many good places to eat. You will also find a Dunkin Donuts every mile or so.LOL

Just a note: if your son doesn't have a passport he should work on getting that after he checks in to the boat.

Chimene- thank you so much! It makes me so happy to hear that. Got to speak to my son yesterday for a little bit and he is so anxious and excited to get out and start using all of the stuff he has been learning for the last 2 years. He said he is to report 10/7, I think. He is a ET nuke. What does your son think of Groton and the base?

Hey ladies!! Happy to see someone else posting here. My son is sonar and has been on the boat almost 2 months. He has informed me that this is a good boat with a good crew.
