My son just went in his first deployment on the USS Vella Gulf. He left April 23 2017. I have been face with lost of fear and proudness all at the same time so it's easy to say I'm overwhelmed being its first time he was very happy when he left that's what keeps me positive. Everything that's going on with The world it seems it's a Navy thing going on right now so I'm very worried but excited for him to see the world he is my bay boy I got a older son and a daughter that will. E going to collage next year so I will be a empty nester soon.i just wish peaple would stop saying it's going to be ok instead of just supporting me.thank you

Hello everyone! My spouse is currently on the Vella Gulf, but navyformoms.com was my go-to for information on his rate and for his very first orders when he started back in 2009. It's been a while since I visited the site, but I remembered that we have a lot of moms who have sailors on the ship so I just wanted to let you all know that there is a Facebook group USS Vella Gulf FRG that you can request to be added on if you have Facebook. I'm actually the secretary for the FRG, but if you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact us. If you don't have Facebook you can email me at aprilvasquez22@gmail.com and we can get you added onto the FRG email list. Please use the subject line as Vella Gulf FRG. Thank you!

Our grandson just received his orders that his first ship will be the Vella Gulf..he will finish his schooling the end of May..with his orders to report the 1st of July...this is very exciting both for him and us..(his grandfather is retired navy)..we are located in Calif. so it will be different that he will be so far away...since he has been in school in Pt. Loma..glad to meet all of you...

My son just received his orders to go on for his first deployment. I think this will be an exciting first for him and his family. I am so proud of him!! My father was a Seebee way back in the 50's, and my Uncle was an Aviator back then too. Thank you for being here, this will be nice to know he is not alone on the ship.

Yes, I'm struggling with this deployment. The last one, My Son's first one was tough for me, but it was in "calmer" waters. This time.... it's different.  But I will stay strong for him :)

They're taking off for deployment in about 48 hours! I wish they were leaving under better circumstances. After all, the summer in Europe should be beautiful. However, my sailor is dreading the first month or so. Anyone else feeling wistful to say goodbye to our sailors?

My son is a Culinary Specialist on the Vella Gulf. He's only been on this ship since September. (PIR 8/23/2013.) I have lots of questions about his first deployment. Any experienced moms out there? Thanks.
