Waiver denied for astigmatism

Hi, my daughter was asked to go back to MEPS 3 times for her vision. 1st time the MEPS eye doctor said she had to return back a 2nd time because she has astigmatism and they want to make sure she does not have keratoconus. So she went back a 2nd time to MEPS a week later and the eye doctor said she had to return a 3rd time because he thought she may have early signs of keratoconus. So back to MEPS she went a 3rd time and the eye doctor said she did NOT have keratoconus but that she would need a waiver for her astigmatism. My daughter said MEPS sent a file with waiver stamped on it to the officials and it came back denied within 2 hours. Her astigmatism was a 6.25 and she was told the standard is 6.0. While completing the medical forms at the recruiters office we told her recruiter about her astigmatism, he told her not to list it because it would require a lot more paperwork for him and MEPS will see she has astigmatism anyway and a waiver would be requested at that time. I'm not sure if she gets lasik surgery to correct her astigmatism will automatically disqualify her for enlisting in the future. Her recruiter didn't know, he just said he's seen some people get lasik and still be denied & some people get approved. She is devastated over this, she kept going back to MEPS as they requested because she had hope & enlisting in the Navy was something she's truly wanted. I just wanted to share because my heart hurts seeing her down over this. Any advice Navy moms can give me will be greatly appreciated.

How sad. How did things turn out? Thoughts with her and you as well.

Things are better. Thank you for asking. We scheduled a lasik consultation. We were told to not miss any of the follow up appointments & that she can try again in 6 months with the Navy. She agreed to go enroll in college for now, I'm hoping she'll complete at least 2 yrs of college before trying for the navy again. She was offered to enlist with the army at her 3rd visit at MEPS but her heart is set with our US Navy. I'm very proud of her for not feeling she had to change what God has put in her heart.
