Any info helps! New to this group

Hey everyone I’m new to the navy for moms website. My significant other is currently in Great Lakes for boot camp. I have gotten quite a bit of information but I am kinda hoping to find new things out. Anything on boot camp as it goes on, graduation ceremony info, and the only main question I have is if no updates are a good thing. I have sent out letters via Sandboxx and no replies yet he started June 7th. Hoping and praying every thing is going well. Any new info helps

    Olivia,

We do our best to keep the information, especially on the BC Mom and Loved Ones group as up to date as possible. If you scroll down the information in the middle of that group page, especially, UPDATED TRAINING SCHEDULE (6/2022 - Thanks to belovedbyHim) - All of our information comes either from what RTC has on their website - Home (navy.mil)

Or what we learn from others who have recently been to PIR or had SR (seaman recruits) at BC. Be sure to read all of the information on both the RTC website which I gave you the link for and the information on the BC Mom group page, including the other "pages" that are listed on the right side - be sure to click View All. This site is easiest viewed on a computer but I posted a comment on your profile page to put a mobile device into desktop mode if you are not able to navigate well around the pages.

Here is information on Sandboxx App for BC - all blue type on this site is hyperlinks to other information for you to read. It is my understanding that just because you send letters via Sandboxx they may or may not be that much faster than regular postal mail. They still have to train someone to be the Recruit Petty Officer for the mail room, who picks up the mail and delivers it to the different SRs in the division. Also, Sandboxx is NOT private. It is like writing a postcard and other people read what you write and print it out for your SR, so just use it for the encouraging words. If Sandboxx was even an option when my son was at BC, I do not know. We still had to wait almost 3 - 4 weeks for our first letter from our SR, and they were only allowed to write on Sunday, and their letters were mailed on Monday. I don't think it is much different with Sandboxx, so our mantra around here is "No News is Good News!!" -

So, YES, if you have had no updates and your are his primary contact versus his parents, then if you do not hear of any change of status, then assume all is going according to plan.

If you look on the left side of this page, scroll down, and you will see some links for two documentary videos. I know this may seem like it is "old" but it is the best we have to offer.

There has been some talk that they may be moving back away from 10 weeks to the original 8 weeks, but we have not had any concrete confirmation on that.

The best place for you to post your specific questions is in the Comment Wall area on the BC Mom group, where you should have received a notification with my welcome to the group from me.

FYI - For anyone new that might stop by this blog post - be sure to come join us in the Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) - Navy For Moms (ning.com)  group. That is the best place to ask your questions and post your ups and downs.

When you go to the group page, look for the Comment Wall area and post your questions there. If you are on a mobile device, I recommend putting it into desktop mode so you can see how to navigate around the group pages on this site. You will need to scroll down the page past information, past the discussions and then you will find the Comment Wall. More of the members will receive email notifications from the Comment Wall and you are more likely to get more responses.

All of us that are a part of this site, lead busy lives and want to help and encourage, but we all volunteer our time, so the more you post and the more questions you ask the more likely you are to get answers, to make friends and to find the support you are looking for.
