From talking to other friends in the Navy, my son seems to think he may have a say as to where he might be stationed/deployed. He thinks they get a list of locations and can prioritize locations. Does anyone know if this is true? Thanks for any info!

Sometimes a Sailor will get a duty station that is on his "dream sheet"; it all depends on the needs of the Navy and what is available at the time. Also, not all ratings will be offered every duty station. When there are several duty stations available to be offered at "A" School then sometimes the Sailors will be able to pick based on their class ranking to that point so those with lower scores would be left with what is available at the time.

You can check in AB - Moms to see how things have worked out.

Is there a list of places where they might get stationed or locations/countries where ships are? Didn't know if this was classified info or something or if the curious mom could see what's out there!

No, that info is in the public domain. http://www.navy.mil/navydata/bases/navbases.html gives the Naval facilities within the US.
http://www.navy.mil/navydata/ships/lists/homeport.asp lists the various home ports and the vessels assigned to them. (Some vessels have shifted home ports since that was last updated, but it gives you an idea anyway.)
http://www.navy.com/about/locations.html is also a great source for where the Navy is present.
http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/130... gives an idea of tour lengths and types.

One thing to remember when looking at bases and vessels is whether your sailor would have a job there. Surface sailors don't go to sub bases, airmen don't get stationed on destroyers, and so on.
My husband's ex never understood. She lived near a sub base, but he was not a submariner, so could never have orders there.
