I’m excited to attend my son’s graduation from Navy Bootcamp in Great Lakes on January 6th. Given the weather, what is appropriate attire? We’re from California and unaccustomed to snow, ice, and low temperatures. Thank you for suggestions!

We usually recommend Dressy Casual for the ceremony. You will be sitting in the great hall on metal bleachers. Layers are always good.
Here are links to some other information that you might find helpful. San Diego Proud - If you are wanting specific clothing, make sure you have a winter weather coat that can also handle rain or snow. If you are traveling by plane, probably, I would find something that is downy like and able to compact for traveling, or an insulated type raincoat or trench coat, which you can also wear on the plane. And then make sure you have long sleeves, which you may layer with a cardigan sweater that buttons up the front. I would go ahead and plan to wear long dress slacks, and comfortable shoes for both walking around in (you will likely do more walking than you might think), as well as ones that are closed toed and waterproof. Nice dress loafers, or even comfortable boot type shoes or boots.
This way if there is snow or water your feet will not get wet. And a scarf, gloves, & a head covering of some sort. They don't have to be super thick and bulky, just warm!
