    I wonder why Tyler went into SECF when he scored a 290 on this.....sometimes I wish I could get into his brain......(well, maybe not)

      Hey April, I think it more than just the score, they have to hit these numbers to qualify for the rating and they also interview them to see what their interests and goals are. Sub Electronics is a pretty heavy duty field. He will get all the electronics training but will be putting them to use on a sub. It's not a light weight job that's for sure!

      I did post some faqs on submarine life in the education forum that you might find interesting - I learned alot! How's school going for Tyler?

      Part II - What the scores are taken from...
      The minimum score of 35 is in reference to the Armed Forces Qualification Test, (AFQT).

      The ASVAB Sub-Test Composites Used by the Navy are:

      * General Science (GS)
      * Arithmetic Reasoning (AR)
      * Word Knowledge (WK)
      * Paragraph Comprehension (PC)
      * Numerical Operations (NO)
      * Coding Speed (CS)
      * Auto and Shop Information (AS)
      * Mathematics Knowledge (MK)
      * Mechanical Comprehension (MC)
      * Electronics Information (EI)
      * Sum of Word Knowledge and Paragraph Comprehension (VE)
      * Assembly of Objects (AO)

      To qualify for Corpsman, (HM) you must receive a composite score of 146 from the above three categories: VE+MK+GS=146

      The 146 may have been raised or lowered for Corpsman, and may be different for various Navy jobs. This is only for illustration purposes to better understand the difference between the Armed Forces Qualification Test, (AFQT) and the sub-test composite scores.
