My Fiance has been in boot for a week. When can he write and make calls?

Im wondering what is all going on right now while he is in boot camp. When can he make calls home and when will we get his address and write him. We got his box of clothes that he went with. So I am wondering when can we receive all this information. What goes on in the 1st and 2nd week of bootcamp.

    proud Navy wife!

your form letter should come soon. I got mine w/in a few days of receiving his box. In the form letter will be the address you use to write to your recruit. Be sure and use the address exactly. I was able to get my husbands address earlier by calling his recruiter but not all recruiters have access to that information. You could still try tho. The 1st week of bootcamp is called 'p-week' because it is all processing. Clothing gets issued, paper work gets done, shots, dental inspections, tooth extractions (if needed), hair cut, Military ID pictures taken and so on... After p-week is when bootcamp officially begins. Here is a general week by week breakdown that I found useful.

Also just browsing through all the forums and reading others posts and answers helps immensley as almost this exact question has been asked many times before. So you might find answers to questions you never knew you had just by looking through.

I didnt get my first call till exactly the 3 week mark. It was during the middle of the day and on a cell phone it will show up as pay phone or illinois. If you didnt send him w/a phone card mail him one. Make sure to activate it b4 you send it as you dont want him to waste valuable minutes that he could be talking to you trying to figure that out. Um write to him alot. Expect his first letter to be really depressing b/c he will be pretty sad and wont start getting any mail fr: you for a week or two cause it takes a while to catch up to him. Start writing your letters now and send them all when you finally do get the address. He will thank you for it. Good luck!

Recruits will not be allowed to write home for their first week or two, I got my first real letter about a week and a half after I got the form letter (about three weeks after he left). Your letters may not catch up to him for about three weeks, so those first few letters may ask why you're not writing. Don't panic, it will get to him. Date your letters so your recruit knows when they were sent.

Recruits are only allowed to mail letters out on Sunday (they actually get sent Monday), so expect your letters Wednesday or Thursday, and on weeks with a post office holiday, Thursday or Friday. Unless you live very close to Chicago, then it's Tuesday/Wednesday.

Your next phone call will come during Week 3, which is actually their fourth week - the first week is processing and does not count towards training. Recruits have three guaranteed calls during boot camp: the "I'm here" call the night they arrive, the "I'm still alive" call in the 3rd week of training, and the "I'm a sailor" call in their 7th week. Any other calls have to be earned.

Some divisions earn a half-dozen calls, others never earn an extra call. If they are going to earn calls it will probably be in the fourth week or later. It is rare for recruits to earn a call during the first half of boot camp.

Some recruits call in the second and/or sixth weeks to get more information for their security clearance. They won't be allowed to chat at that time, they are to give you a list of items they need, and a phone number to fax it to.
