Taking the Shuttle to PIR or Drive to PIR

Hello Everyone,

I need some advice.

We are driving to Great Lakes tomorrow for my boyfriends PIR.  His father and I are now deciding if we should either A.) Drive on base and park or B.) Take the shuttle. 

Does anyone know which would be the better option?  I'm sure like everyone else, we want to get in there and get a great seat!   But does anyone have any experience with the shuttle and or driving on base??  

I need the Pro's and Con's.

    I stayed at the Navy Lodge and drove onto the base.  It's really very easy, and both the parking and the drill hall are at the entrance to the base.  We got there just a few minutes after 6 a.m. and were the 9th or 10th car in line.  The traffic does back up very quickly. 

    I would think that the "Con" would be waiting for the shuttle to take you back to the hotel; I don't know how long of a wait there would be (in the cold), and your new Sailor is itching to get out of there!!

      For those who have driven to PIR, how long did it take afterwards to get off the base? Not sure if backs up getting out like it does on the way in. Thanks!
