(& yes, I imagine he'd fly right into OAJ, wouldn't the nearest be Raleigh, about an hour away?)

I just did expedia and found flights to OAJ via Charlotte, they were about the same as flights from Chicago to philly. sooo if he reroutes to philly for his leave the price should be the same. but I want to travel with him back, why can't the Navy just give travel vouchers so we can book a flight home together?

I'd like to get two tickets on southwest from chicago to philly, but what happens to the tickets he gets from the navy? does he refuse them? what happens if he doesn't use them?

I came to conclusion it was best to let him do as the Navy wished, esp since he was just coming out of boot camp. That way no issues in case of flight delays, etc.

He has two weeks leave after grad before reporting to CL so flight delays won't be an issue. We're thinking he'll drive his car from here to CL.

One drive from Chicago to Philly was quite enough.

Ah, I misunderstood. Still, I thought it best not to make waves, so to speak. Mine had time off too; we arrived back home within an hour of each other, figured he'd sleep on the plane anyway ;)

Yep !!! I get very nervous and Melissa has been so precious with me cuz I had not heard from him and I new our time there was at an end...Silly me he was doing just what our Ruthella always says " Hes working " !!!! And yes he has been very busy and I have just been a mom..lol

Today FMTB-East is having a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new training facility, Doc Bradley Hall, at Camp Johnson (part of Camp Lejeune).
The new facility is named for John “Doc” Bradley, a corpsman during World War II and one of the six men who helped raise the flag on Iwo Jima.

I would have loved to have been there to see......Go Navy Docs !!!!

After I watched that movie I cried for my father ...He was not so pleased with me marrying a Japanese man....I finally understood...He loved his grandchildren though he made a statement " What do you think they will look like " ....So when I had my first child I told him..Not nice : ( My youngest cub was born on my daddys B-Day ( which was his last wish ) 1 1/2 years later he passed from cancer... That movie means a lot to me...I now understand

My FIL was in an internment camp in Utah before joining the Army...My son looks very much like his Papa..I really loved that man...
For my father watching that movie gave me a better understanding of what he was feeling...Funny as an adult I can better understand, but as a teen I couldn't. Anyway my father was very Navy and was on a ship at the time of all that happening around him...Like I said better understanding..

AKmom, I asked my son & friends if they knew your son and they do, though he's in another platoon. They all look great, by the way! I heard they're cleaning like mad tonight, too. Weather today was gorgeous, tomorrow will be as well (85 and sunny). I'll do my best to find your son and give him a Navy mom hug for you, and take pictures too!

AKmom I tried and tried but couldn't catch up to your boy, I'm so sorry. I did hear his name called and it was a great ceremony as each received his certificate. They were all packed with their bags stacked together and they scattered quickly to the airport or wherever they were headed. I had one of his instructors help me look for him after graduation, and he said to tell you that you have a fine son and he did really well and you can be proud!

How sweet Marcy.... Gosh, I really wish my cub was there so you two could meet...
