Thanks John, ok now translate! What's that mean?
  • Dan's Dad (John)

It's where they are? Dan's PSI is BAS (Battalion Aid Station)
"used to identify a Navy or Marine Corps military installation"

Welcome to our Family Sir Vette !!!! Your going to enjoy our group here !!!
  • vettespace

Hey ladies! Now I've got to get used to checking another group. Not yet sure when he's going to arrive or even which unit he'll be assigned. But it'll happen within the next three months or so. I'm definitely going to need your support and guidance. Who knows, he may end up in one of your cub's units.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Christine- Dan's heading to Camp Johnson Monday too.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Dan is anxious too. I guess we won't be hearing from him for a couple of weeks.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

It's not like boot camp; they'll have their cell phones & weekends off. The first weeks are book instruction & tests interspersed with PT. A LOT of info in a short time (I read the blocks); they'll be super busy from the start. My son said the food at CJ/CL was very good, & they get more sleep than BC, too.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

It really helps to have a car. CL, the Marine Exchange, etc are miles away.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hm, I wish I knew that. In my son's case, he knew before he arrived.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

So true. About all I can suggest is dropping by your recruiter's office and visit with them; the info they come up with can be pretty great. And cookies etc never hurt ;)
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Dan did say he'd have weekends off, and he has his car. We don't hear much from him now so I figured it would be less now that the training starts. LOL.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

My son really enjoyed FMTB. They all were tired but in great spirits at graduation - & they all looked great! Hopefully you can attend, it's well worth it.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Charlotte- yes he's 2nd marine division, combat engineers battalion. for now at least.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

We're planning on it, it's "only" and 8 hour drive.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

I was texting him tonight. He says it was a long week of not doing much. He says monday they start classes and meet their advisors, then the suck starts.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

    Dan is in First Platoon.
  • mikes mom

I'm sure he will do an awesome job on his test !!!
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Glad I have this group, Danny doesn't tell us anything!
  • mikes mom

Congrats on your son Christine !!! Gosh, I remember when my son went through that ( gassed )
  • mikes mom

I can't remember what my son said when he went through it at CL ... Hmmmm maybe I should ask him ?
Congrats to all your sons !!!
  • mikes mom

Your welcome : ) My son went green side how about yours ? He just finished his first tour in Afg.. SO right now I'm a pretty happy mom to have him back on American Soul..
  • mikes mom

My son is with the 2/2 ... It wasn't easy while he was deployed and right now I'm trying to get the weight off I gained while he was deployed ...LOL
My younger daughter is visiting CL for a few months she is staying with her older sister who is married to an Officer stationed at CL too. My youngest just joined the Army and will be going to Boot Camp in Nov.
  • mikes mom

    2/2 2nd Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment
My oldest was in the Navy too she was Master At Arms ( Military Police )
My youngest will be going somewhere in Tennessee ... She is spending the summer with her brother and sister.. Can you say Empty Nest !!! LOL
  • mikes mom

Yes but they were friends and it wasn't till she got out that became closer...
My youngest is wanting to be a Health Care Specialist/Airborne Option
  • vettespace

When my son went thru the gas chamber at CP this past May/June he said they used full strength gas that was much stronger than BC. I think he said that most everyone got sick this time!
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Dan said he won't get a 96 for Labor day, asked if we wanted to come down for a visit...hell yes!
  • Dan's Dad (John)

We drove Dan's car down for him after he got settled. We stayed at the Belmont Inn om Marine Blvd. and it wasn't bad for $55 a night, easy 30 mmin. drive to Emerald Isle beaches. Prices have gone up for the holiday weekend, I'm thinking about booking a place in Wilmington this time and check out Wrightsville Beach.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Charlotte, I think John means the Baymont Inn & Suites on Western Blvd. To get the $55 rate vs $95, book it on Hotwire.com, search Jacksonville and choose the 2.5 star motel with pool. I stayed there in May and it worked out well. It's close to graduation at Camp Johnson, central to shopping, restaurants etc. Breakfast is included. http://www.baymontinns.com/Baymont/control/Booking/property_info?pr...
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

But you were close John! ;)
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Thanks Marcy! BTW, booked a motel in Emerald Isle for the weekend, can't wait!
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Crap! I thought Earl already made landfall in Wilmington, at least that's what Ruthella says.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

Should get some nice waves at least!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Here's Ruthella's Earl; he made landfall in her life more than a few years ago :)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Christine, I've been looking for a good storm tracking site (have interest in a boat in the Caribbean), so thanks!!
Speaking of waves, be careful, they've had rip tides as far up as Ocean City MD this week; a DC man drowned this weekend...
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

    So far! LOL
  • Dan's Dad (John)

So Dan just texted his mom that he may not be able to leave base this weekend due to Earl.
  • Dan's Dad (John)

As of 0500 Emerald Isle is in mandatory evacuation, looks like my weekend plans have been revised. Got an email from the hotel saying they'll be no penalties for cancellation. Guess we'll have to wait for the October graduation to see him.

  • vettespace

Anyone with a corpsman in the 3/2? My corpsman is headed that way in early Nov. to start training for a spring deployment.
  • vettespace

Hi Susan, and best wishes to you and your son on his current deployment. My son was just awarded his Gray Belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program and will be busy with additional training before he leaves GL and heads to training in CL and 29 Palms before heading back to CL. Looks like his deployment is scheduled for 7 months starting in the the spring, so hopefully that will go by fast! The 3/2 is nicknamed the "Betio Bastards" after a World War II battle in the Pacific... it's a history lesson just following each step of my son's navy career.
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Susan, Ruthella is so right, you will find so much positive support at our group, please come join us (and any other corpsman moms who haven't yet). http://www.navyformoms.com/group/corpsmanmomsanddads
We have fun, too! Sometimes the conversations take all sorts of turns but the basis of strength for each other is always present.
