Very nice. my son moved off base in December and work nights in mom baby. he wanted the ER but none of them did of the group that got out of FMTB when he did. Your son is fortunate. :) My son does like his unit though but doesn't like the night shift.

Ole-Corpsman Mom, funny, my son wanted to get the baby unit, he had a friend in another hospital who works who enjoys it. He said he is happy where he is. He called me last night, had the week-end off. His friends all took off, he is saving to buy a car. Something he really misses.

I certainly wished I wasn't shoveling snow. We live in Duluth. Getting another storm tomorrow! This is crazy. Sounds like you made the right move Sheryl Navy 2.
Sunshine Sandy. That is funny that they ended up in the opposite. Where did your son go while they were off? My son has been pretty ill so he hasn't done much the past week. My daughter, niece and his girlfriend visited the week before. :) I hope your son gets his car or has a ride. The barracks are pretty far from a lot of stuff (except the hospital).

Hi my son he will be graduating next week 14030. I am not able to attend. Does anyone knows if is a way to send him something?

green greek, I don't know if something sent now would reach him in time. And when graduation is over, they are already all packed and head out immediately! Maybe email your congratulations along with an Amazon gift card or iTunes gift card? I know my son likes those :)

Welcome Mom2Bryan! You can read up on what he'll be learning by going to the official FMTB-East website; see this Discussion - http://navyformoms.com/group/CampLegueneMoms/forum/topics/fmtb-clcj...
They jam a LOT into their eight weeks - classroom at first, then field experiences. Nowadays they post a lot of photos of each class throughout training on the Facebook page, so keep an eye on it - https://www.facebook.com/FMTBeast

What would summer be without "Jaws"? :)
WILMINGTON NC | Katharine – a 14-foot, 2,300-pound great white shark with a tracking device – announced her presence off the coast of Wilmington about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday by emitting a signal picked up by a satellite.
The immature female shark was tagged Aug. 19, 2013, in the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Cod, Mass. Since then she has traveled about 6,400 miles. Within the last month she cruised from the Gulf of Mexico, around Florida and up the East Coast. To track Katharine's travels, visit www.ocearch.org/profile/katharine or download the OCEARCH Global Shark Tracker app on your smartphone.

My corpsman went through this training just last week: Marines, Sailors get a roller coaster ride in the Helo Dunk"
The training proved itself today, when a CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter assigned to the 22nd MEU crashed into the Gulf of Aden while transferring 17 Marines and eight sailors back to USS Mesa Verde. All survived, with some minor injuries among them. Bravo Zulu everyone!

I just noticed the link to the Inn of the Corps on base. We have stayed there several times and it is wonderful! Reminds me a lot of the Navy Lodge in Great Lakes. It also has a wonderful breakfast. If you are planning to stay in the area - this is the best!

Thanks Ladies: In surfing the web I discovered there are MANY birthday balls. I was interested in the 2-8 birthday ball being held in Myrtle Beach. Just received all necessary information from my otherwise very quiet corpsman.

I have been looking to see how much it will cost me to attend my sons graduation from FBMT in March . I live in Texas . I have found some good deals on Priceline for flight and hotel . Is there a way to get to Jacksonville from the airport without using a Taxi ? Like a bus etc... My son told me it cost about $50 to the base using a Taxi . I'm trying to avoid that . I would use a Taxi from the hotel to the base but that would be about it . Any help would be great
Dec 29, 2014
Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom
You're going to end up spending quite a bit on taxis that way! I recommend renting a car. The airport is out in the sticks and the base is huge too, so fares to and from the airport and from hotel to base and back will add up to a lot.
It would be way cheaper overall to rent a car from Enterprise at the airport or in Jacksonville (they also have an office on base and on Western Blvd, and they will pick you up too). I just checked a random date (Thurs January 8) and Enterprise rates start at $15 per day for an economy car, up to $19 for a full size. Enterprise will rent to a debit card if there's a round-trip air reservation and something like $250 in the account they can put a temporary hold on till the car is returned.
If you really don't want to rent a car, Mainstay Suites on Marine Blvd has an airport shuttle; perhaps do that and take a taxi to/from the base.

Marcy Thank you very much for your help about the rental car information .

Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom
You're welcome! BTW speaking of rental cars, if your sailor is 21 - 24 years old and ever wants to rent a car, he can get the underage fees waived (up to $27 per day) if he banks with USAA and goes through the USAA website to reach the car rental websites. Log into to USAA.com then Account Products -> Travel Discounts -> Car Rentals -> pick company. They also will waive the fee for an additional driver on the contract.

Good morning all. I have a question about cell phone usage while stationed at Camp Schwab in Japan. Will my son be able to use his iphone on our Sprint plan? Can I purchase an international phone and send it to him? What do other sailors use to keep in contact with family. My son will be there for 6 months. Thanks for your help!
Feb 18, 2015
Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom
Not Japan, but overseas: when my corpsman was in Italy, he bought a SIM card from the local provider (Vodaphone) and was able to continue using his Samsung Galaxy phone. He put his Verizon number here on "military hold" when in Italy, which stopped charges and just had to reinstall the original SIM card and call Verizon to reactivate it when home. (To do a military hold, you have to provide some information such as command and CO name).
Skype works great for free calling and messaging on laptops and smartphones, also the app Viber.
It would be a good question to ask in the Japan Moms group as they and their sailors would know the best company to go with. http://navyformoms.com/group/japanmoms

Froggy, it usually took about ten days to two weeks to get a package to Italy - that was during the period 2012-2014.

Hi!
My name is Barbara and I have two sons in the Navy.
My youngest joined in 2008, he is a corpsmen. He is stationed in Groton, CT now. But he will be going back to NC soon.
My oldest joined in 2006. He was on the Louisiana, but is now on the USS Michigan. He is with the Blue Crew.
Just wanted to connect with other families of corpsmen and submariners.
