Something for corpsmen moms to read and be proud about!   A special report about Field Medical Training Battalion (FMTB) from this month's Sea Power magazine, published by the Navy League of the United States.  It starts on page 38.  http://www.seapower-digital.com/seapower/september_2015#pg41

Got a son coming out of A school from Ft SH, heading to Lejuene is this the right place. Are there separate groups for regiments?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Yes, this is the place!  No, there aren't separate groups for regiments.  You can find information about units at http://marineparents.com/units/search2.asp.

You can always navigate to that link by going to marineparents.com  -> Your Marine During Service  ->  Marine Corps  ->  Unit Information Pages

Because there's more to North Carolina than Jacksonville, fortunately!  LOL  https://www.thrillist.com/lifestyle/charlotte/the-most-beautiful-pl...  I know that Beaufort is an easy drive; and they didn't mention the beaches at Topsail.

  • Bronco14

Hi again ladies! This might be a total long shot but I thought I'd ask anyway! I know the Navy grants chits for administrative leaves for sailors to get married. I found the paperwork and rules regarding the leave on the Navy's website... but I am assuming this isn't for sailors in school/training like FMTB? Anyone have experience with their sailors getting married during FMTB? My sailor and I have been talking about it, but we'd like to avoid a courthouse marriage if at all possible! Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance :)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Field Med is a pretty intense eight weeks, I guess it's just me but I don't think I'd try to throw a wedding into the mix!  You'll have a little breathing room afterwards when you head to whatever his duty station is, why not wait till then.  Just my two cents anyway, whatever it's worth.

  • Bronco14

Yes makes total sense! We are considering both options, we would both really like for him to be able to live off base with me down in Pendleton (I'm from SoCal and have fam in the area) and we hate not knowing where he will be after FMTB.I figure if we are married by the time he graduates I can move with him to wherever his duty station is without too many problems... because we are unsure what time off, if any, he will have after FMTB and before his permanent duty station. Thanks for your two cents lol, always appreciated :) I think once him and I fiND out his FMTB orders and where he will be sent to after FMTB, I'll be able to breathe a little easier!
  • Bronco14

Thanks Tenn Navy Mom, pretty sure we might do something similar to that! I appreciate all the advice and information :)

  • Bronco14

Hi again ladies, hope all has been well! Thought I'd share that my sailor got his orders.... annnd he got FMTB, woohoo! However, he did get orders for Lejeune and not Camp P. Farther from home than we wanted to be but that is all well, as long as he got FMTB we are happy :) He did get orders for the blue side rather than the green side for after FMTB though... Has anyone had any experience with soft orders getting changed? I know it is an obvious possibility but I am curious how often it actually happens. Any helpful info is appreciated :)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

FMTB isn't "orders" per se.  It's just an additional eight weeks of training that most go through, either directly after A School and before their first duty station, or later on.  He must have hard orders for his first duty station after Field Med.  The need for greenside corpsmen isn't what it was ten years ago (fortunately, be grateful) so it's not surprising that he's headed blue side.

  • Bronco14

Gotcha. Yes he only has soft orders as of now, and his orders are for a hospital. He is bummed, I however am not too sad because it is so much safer than going green side. I'm happy he will still have FMTB training.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Too many condolence letters and donations to Fisher House sent in honor of HMs since my son joined.  I don't know a parent of a corpsman who deployed who doesn't talk of some degree of PTSD their corpsman deals with as as result.  Glad your corpsman has his mindset, yet also glad he has the opportunity to learn and grow within a medical setting at least for now.

  • Bronco14

Ah yes that makes me feel so much better about his orders... my hope is that the FMTB training will be fun and exciting enough for him before he settles down into a hospital position. Plus the transition out of the Navy and opportunities for him will be great (I'm hoping). Thank you for your encouragement Marcy!

  • Bronco14

Did your sailors get into the next FMTB class after their A school graduation? I noticed that the next FMTB-E class to begin is in April... but there's a rumor that it may already be at capacity so my sailor may be on hold until the next FMTB class beginning in July... any word?

  • Hootsmom

Anyone heading down to NC for FMTB on 3/9?

  • Joe's Mom

We will be heading east from Iowa for FMTB graduation next week!!
  • Hootsmom

Staying at Inn of the Corps please PM me love to meet you. Hopefully you have caught a glimpse of your son on the FMTBeast FB.

  • CindyR

We will be there for the 3/9 graduation. We are staying at the Inn too. I've been reading the info & tips posted for the graduation. Thanks for all the information. It's been very helpful.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

That's wonderful that you all are going!  Though I was last at CL and CJ in August, it's been several years since I attended Field Med graduation.  Please post about your experiences so we can update the info, yay!

  • Hootsmom

I have to say, and I haven't gone back in the posts to see if anyone else has mentioned it, but they are awesome at FMTBeast (love that it says beast at the end!, cause these corpsman rock!!) on their facebook page, about posting pics, almost a thousand for any one class. And they seem to work hard to make sure everyone gets a pic. So families get to see their loved ones. Just a  note to new families, and I heard this from day one at Great Lakes, don't post any comments on the site about your loved ones. It just draws attention to them from the training staff, which is not a good thing no matter how nice the post.  Cindy R and Joe's Mom hope to see you there. Feel free to IM me on here....

If new families don't know this site below had some good basic info about the program including a syllabus of what they are doing each week.

I am so desperately in need on any information from any family members here who have had a sailor in the SARC pipeline please!!

  • Missingmysoninvabeach

My son leaves for FMTB Camp Lejeune in a couple of months. I am so excited for him !! When he finishes his training do they have a graduation ceremony?
  • Carol

My son was given his orders for Camp Jeune after December 12th. Can someone direct me to information about when he will actually go from A school to Camp Lejune. It seems that I read somewhere that the living conditions are not good at Camp Le Jeune. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hi Carol and sorry for the delay.  It's sort of impossible for us to give you a definitive answer about classing up.  However, I can tell you that at Camp Johnson, where FMTB is located, I'm told that the barracks have been updated. They're busy with study and being in the field, and hard as it might seem to believe, I've never met a corpsman who wouldn't go back and do FMTB all over again, mud and all.  You can follow along at the Facebook page for FMTB-East https://www.facebook.com/FMTBeast/?fref=ts

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Note to all Camp Lejeune Moms - Navyformoms.com is being updated and upgraded, and part of this effort is making room for new members.  To do so, members who have not been active since 12/1/15 will be removed but will be able to re-join.  If you haven't posted since that date, please do so right away.  This is all part of an effort to make Navyformoms.com the best it can be for everyone, seasoned moms and new members alike.  Thanks and watch for good things to happen!

    Good answer Marcy
  • Barbara

    Happy Holidays!

  • Carol

Tmy son will coming to Camp LeJeune in the next month. Does anyone know when he will be allowed to have a vehicle once he gets there??
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Is he going to be stationed at Camp Lejeune, or is he attending FMTB?  Either way, he is allowed to have a car.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Carol - here is the link with the information and requirements for having a car at FMTB:  http://www.trngcmd.marines.mil/Units/South-Atlantic/FMTB-E/Students...

  • AdamS mom

My corpsman starts FMTB January 8th. He has been at Camp Lejeune since October doing odd and end jobs. He did receive a challenge coin from the XO of 2nd Medical because he has been on every work crew since he arrived. So proud of my corpsman

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

300 Camp Lejeune Marines and their corpsmen landed in Norway Monday.  U.S. troops are to stay in Norway for a year, with the current batch of Marines being replaced after their six-month tour is complete.  http://www.reuters.com/article/us-norway-usa-military-idUSKBN1501CD

  • nikki

Did any of you have to deal with your sons or daughters nerves and worries about being deployed. My son is feeling nervous now and it's only his 1 week in camp legion. How do I help him when I feel the same. Trust me I haven't let on to my feelings at all.
  • AdamS mom

Can someone tell me why my corpsman would be attending a lance corporeal seminar

  • AdamS mom

My son is going to 29 Palms for additional training then reporting back to Camp Lejeune when completed. He has been through FMTB. Any ideas on what this training could be

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hi AdamS mom - No, sorry I don't know - has he told you anything more?

  • AdamS mom

Tenn NVy Mom not sure if he will be deploying soon as he is pretty closed mouth about things. Really taking that secrecy oath seriously.

  • mikes mom

Well said Tenn Navy Mom .... AdamS mom my son deployed twice with hi Marine's .... They are either training or deploying .... My son was with his Marine's for 5 years ....
  • lyz

My son graduates from FMTB East (Camp Lejeune) on 9/13/17. Is this always at 9 am? I am trying to make flight arrangements.

Also, does Camp Johnson train a different group? I see that their graduations are at 1 pm. Is there a chance that my son could graduate at 1 pm and not 9 am? I don't want to book a flight home that conflicts with graduation.

    Thanks!

  • midnight7780

Hi, just dropped my son off at Camp Lejuene Monday. He starts his training in January. The base is huge and was a bit overwhelming for me so I can imagine it is an adjustment for my son also. Already on facebook group for training, probably will have loads of questions after he starts training.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome midnight7780!  I hope he checks out the Wallace Creek Fitness Center - a 22+ million dollar facility that offers everything from fitness to rock climbing to juice bars and massage therapy, and is stunning as well.  For fun I would occasionally send my son a virtual gift card to the Dunkin Donuts that's in the Marine Exchange parking lot - it's open 24/7.

  • Susie

Hello~ my son just arrived on Monday from San Antonio. Looking forward to learning about his trading and experience and connecting with other parents
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome Susie!  My son is like many corpsmen I know - they enjoyed FMTB and would do it again.  Even though it’s tough!  As long as he’s in shape, which I assume he is since he’s coming from SA, he’ll do great.  You can see what he will be studying and follow along at the official FMTB-E site.  Where will his first duty station be after Field Med?

  • Matthewsmom

My son just arrived last Tuesday from San Antonio! He is loving it! This is most relaxed and happy I have heard him. I can't wait to have him home after his 8 weeks!!
  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Welcome Matthewsmom!  That’s great to hear.  Good for him!

  • RNmom

Hello! I'm trying to find an active group. My son was just picked up for FMTB, and I can't find a group that actively engages on a regular basis. Anybody have tips? Thanks! And thanks to all the Veterans out there  who have served our nation.

  • RNmom

    Thanks Tenn Navy Mom!
