Hi all....well our sailor is finally ready to join his ship! That means...I'm ready for a whole new learning experience too! I've already joined his ship's FB page, and asked who the ombudsman is....so I'll wait for a reply there.

Anything you ladies can share with me as to what I should be doing right now...if anything... will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Marcy...how are you? Haven't seen you since the Rear Admiral Sanders get together. Hope all is well with your sailor.

  • carols_kitchen

ProudGMBarb,  Be sure and join your sailor's ship page on here and on facebook.

  • ISH-MOM

  • ProudGMBarb

carols_kitchen...Thank you! Yes I have already joined his ship's FB page, and also here on Navy4Moms.  He's been home on leave for 28 days...but leaves on Friday. This time it's gonna be harder to say goodbye, since it will be for such a long time.

Looking forward to chatting more with you all!

Welcome Yaris_ (SHIP 07 DIV 194)

ISH-MOM--do you have the FRG (Family Readiness group) yet?  Has he given you the notice he has new orders?  It could be last minute depending upon the Navy's needs, too.  I'm seeing a lot of change-r-oos on other group pages.

  • mother always

    Good morning

I would like to know what a sailor should do if a female sailor is menacing to hurt herself, talking loud, throwing beer at the guy when working, following to his dorm if the sailor don't want to renovate the relation with her...I'm afraid for my son...he loves his military carrer,he is a CORRECT GENTLEMAN, I can assure that, and he has worked har for what he accomplished.

  • mother always

    Good afternoon

Thanks to God,he sent me an email saying that he went to his CO and reported the PROBLEM and I wrote problem with capital letters because this woman is terrible,I say this not because he is my son,but he is a very nice, gentle and respectfull young man and she treated him so wong...so hurtfull, now she is going out with one of his "friends",he even was this guy's mentor...I told him to be cool because she wanted him to get in trouble...but as I say he is always very polite, thanks to God.

They are going out on deployment and they are all going together...just hope she goes her "correct way"...the CO called her and talked to her, what happened there...we don't know...

    Thank you for your answer,Seahorse!

Welcome new members!  It's important to be on your sailor's Ombudsman and FRG lists to be able to get important information while maintaining Operational Security (OPSEC).  Communications about homecomings and dates, for example, is not to be shared here on N4M or any other public site.  Your Ombudsman and FRG will communicate that information securely to those on their lists.

OPSEC guidelines are here:  OPSEC Guidelines

Info for locating your Ombudsman and FRG is in the Discussion Forum above.

A Sailor's Mom, you're so right!  Adding my thanks to all the wonderful Ombudsmen we have :)

  • 2catsn2sailors

When my son turned 18, the apartment complex insisted that he had to be added to the lease. Of course, they charge for W/S/G based on the number of people in the apartment. Now they are dragging their feet to remove him from the lease, even after I put it in writing that he was in Navy Boot Camp.  Any suggestions?

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Check your state's Landlord-Tenant Act for their military clause.  Looks like you're in Washington, so it would be this:  http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=59  You likely will have to provide your landlord a copy of your son's written orders to his first duty station once he completes boot camp and becomes full-fledged active military (that may be part of the hang-up, that he's only in BC).  The good news is that boot camp is only eight weeks long and you'll have those orders soon :)

  • 2catsn2sailors

Thanks Marcy. I printed it off and will inform the management office.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Martha S, try messaging the Fleet and Family Support Center on FB https://www.facebook.com/navyffsc, hopefully they can send you in the right direction.  You could also try your Regional Legal Service Office - http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=24816.

  • LadyShai85

Hi my husband is away in boot camp. I would like to know when I get the dd form to get my military ID and also how do I know when I have benefits. Also, how do I get info for the ombudsmen? I am kind of lost and I am not sure if I need to be doing anything or not. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

At this point your best resource for getting answers is your husband's recruiting office, and they should be happy to help you; have your questions prepared and stop by their office.  You won't have access to an Ombudsman until your husband is assigned to a command after bootcamp.  An Ombudsman is a volunteer who is appointed by the commanding officer to serve as an information link between the command and Navy families.  Once at a command, you'll have all kinds of great family resources through the Fleet and Family Support Center program; this will give you an idea:  http://www.cnic.navy.mil/ffr.html

Once you know where he's headed, Google Fleet and Family Support Center plus the command to find yours, and find the Ombudsman for his command by going to this link.

  • LadyShai85

Ohh oops wrong group then...for now lol. Thank you Marcy :))

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

That's ok!  Please do avail yourself of all the help that your recruiting office can provide, that's what they're for and can answer tons of questions you'll likely have now and during the next few months too.

Shared by an Ombudsman, this is a great article.  Though it's geared towards spouses, it serves as a good reminder that homecoming is the beginning of a period of adjustment for everybody.   Five things no one told me about homecoming

  • jennifer1(Ship 13 Div 366)

I am trying to find the Ombudsman for my son's squadron, VFA-147 Argonauts.  How do I locate them?  I would like to be added to any email list to keep up to date on any deployments or homecomings that they may be having.

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Hi Jennifer!  I did a little research; here are some links.

Send your Ombudsman inquiry to their public affairs officer at PAO.vfa147@navy.mil.

    The squadron's website is http://www.vfa147.navy.mil/welcome.htm.

It appears they are attached to USS Nimitz.

You may therefore want to join this group:  http://www.navyformoms.com/group/ussnimitzcvn68.

You can be on the Nimitz Ombudsmen and USS Nimitz Family Readiness Group lists to keep up to date.  You will need to contact them  and give them information about you, your sailor (rate, rating) and your relationship, to be added.

    Ombudsman:  ussnimitzombudsman@yahoo.com

    FRG:  teamnimitz@yahoo.com

Welcome from the USS Nimitz Ombudsmen and FRG teams:  http://www.nimitz.navy.mil/family-readiness.html

Looks like an exciting assignment; wishing you and your sailor all the best!

  • jennifer1(Ship 13 Div 366)

Marcy...thank you so much for all of the links...I emailed EVERYONE!  LOL

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Great!  Once you get connected with everyone, you not only have peace of mind but can relax and start having fun!  Also, be sure to "Like" both VFA147 Argonauts on Facebook and USS Nimitz (CVN 68) on Facebook for updates, photos and videos - you never know who you'll see!  ;)

  • Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom

Also join the Facebook pages for the Ombudsmen and FRG.  These will be private pages, be sure you get added.  These are the best sources for news and getting answers to questions during deployments (just be sure to observe these OPSEC guidelines).

Im trying to find the Ombudsman for Piont Mugu,CA . Can someone get me to the write page? Thanks

  • deeS

To locate an ombudsman, go to www.ombudsmanregistry.org, and click on the link for Contact Your Ombudsman.  You'll be able to locate the command by region, then alphabetically by command name.  The site allows you to send an email to the ombudsman and they are expected to respond to your email with 24-48 hours.  If they do not have an ombudsman, the site administrator will be notified and arrange contact for you with either a command member or the installation Ombudsman Coordinator.
