Still waiting for div 925 tell us when they do BS.  Hopefully sooner then later so my husband can relax a bit.  Good luck to your SR missionmarcher.
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

My husband's PIR is may 6, I know when the other divisions go, but I haven't heard from 925 yet.  Hopefully today I'll get a letter from him and he'll let me know.
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Good luck to all those going through BS this week or next. My son's call was about 2pm also (Chicago time).  He sounded sooooo tired....as he had watch the night before too. It was very hard to sleep that night wondering what he was doing.

  • missionmarcher

Flyersnut- We are staying at the Navy Lodge. I heard about it on here and we can stay there since we are coming up for PIR. It was only $65 a night with 2 queen beds and only 1.5 miles from RTC. I am going to the meet and greet at the Ramada in  Waukegan on Thursday night though. I believe its from 6 - 9pm. Can hardly wait to meet everyone.

What DIV did you say your kid is in??

  • OMG hes a Sailor (div180)

Hey Y'all! Ok I come by here and nothing for seveal days...than I don't come for  few days and now l have to go like 3pages back to read up! LOL Well B is doing good in BC his calls and letters have been upbeat. He is going to Church every sunday and doing bible study at night! That makes this mamma very happy! I do have a question. When he gets to CS school about how long does it take for them to start getting weekend liberty?

  • J&R's Mom

Hi there - I just got my first phone call from my SR - he still thinks his A School is in Great Lakes.  I told him it is in VA, he said he will ask.  I asked him if he knew who he was talking to?? LOL!!

  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Justin&RyansMom--too funny!!! My son found out in BC it had moved also (moved sometime last Oct. and his recruiter didn't even know). Turns out it is all for the good as he really likes VA and is getting to see a part of the country he wouldn't.

Danelle--think it took my son two weeks to get liberty and wear "real" clothes.

Oregonmom---this is torture!!!!! I thought we would know something by now.....guess I should just remember the old Navy motto of hurry up and wait.

  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

Do you guys know, if my husband is going to be a culinary specialist on a sub, where does he go to school first?  VA for culinary or CT or subs?
  • oregonmom

@Junebug, today is the day! I hope...

@Justin&RyansMom, that is funny, our recruiter who is a great guy, btw, didn't know A school was in VA either. Junebug and I found out on here!! We know more than the Navy does lol.

Have a great day N4Ms. Stay Strong. GO NAVY!! Aren't you proud?

  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

So first he goes to VA, then CT?
  • oregonmom

    Yes
  • oregonmom

Congrats to the new grads. The I'm a Sailor call is such a huge relief. Now you will be able to truly rest in the peace that your sailors are in the US Navy. Hooyah!!!

  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Congrats to all our new Sailors and to Jenn's BF--the Navy's newest CS!!!  Have a great time!

  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Oregonmom--I'm so excited for our sons. What a wonderful adventure they are about to start!!! HOOYAH!!!
  • oregonmom

Thanks Johanna, I'm going to check that out.

    Hooyah to Junebug!!

  • Bananamom

Junebug, my son is stationed on the Reagan. He's a CS working in Cargo. You should sign up for the Reagan Family site and there is a Reagan Ombudsman page on Facebook. To access you need to add you name to roll call on the official US Navy Reagan web site.  Do you live in CA?
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Bananamom--Thanks for the info!!!  Does your son like the Reagan? How long has he been on there? What does it mean he works in Cargo (I will have to get familiar with the lingo. So many questions...haha....

I will have to check those out. No, we live in Arizona.

  • Bananamom

Culinary Specialists not only work in the galley but they also staff the giant storage rooms on the RR. My son is in charge of one of those storage rooms. He likes the RR well enough. They spent a long time at sea because they were one of the first ships providing relief after the earthquake in Japan. It meant 2 1/2 months without a port. They're in Thailand -- and no I'm not violating OPSEC. Their location is official has already been announced through official Navy channels.  Feel free to PM me if you want more info.  We live in Northern CA.
  • OMG hes a Sailor (div180)

Congrats OMG. The time we had with Chris was priceless. We went to Gurnnee Mills also and then to the Museum which we could have spent much more time at. Our sailor was tired too, so the first day we rested quite a bit, we were all tired from the stress of the previous 8 weeks. I know whatever you do, you'll have fun.
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Congrats to Oregonmom's son and mine as they graduated today from CS school!!! HOOYAH!!

  • oregonmom

Hooyah!! to our sailors, Junebug.  I can't wait til he can come home. No word as to when still. I am so proud of our Navy and the job they do training. Chris loves every minute of it and what a great education in life for our sailor from our little bitty town.
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

I cannot wait to see him either Lori. I keep thinking that he is going to surprise me in my classroom tomorrow (wishful thinking, I know!!)....I feel like you..the things they will see in this great adventure they are in. HOOYAH!
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Hi everyone....my son graduated from A-school on Thursday and is waiting to come home for a few days before reporting to SD. I was wondering if he will have to pay for his ticket home or will the Navy? Just wondering....we figured he would have to get to SD on his own or is it the other way around?  Thanks!
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

Hi everyone, my husband will be heading to VA for CS school maybe at the end of this week.  They gave him an estimate, right now he's waiting in GL school to move over.  I was curious, he's only going to be there for 4 weeks, I can't see him learning very much in that time.  Do you guys know what they teach them?  After VA he's going to CT for sub school, do they continue teaching them to cook?
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

    But what do they learn?
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

At CS school, I want to know what he's going to learn to cook.
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

    what is the link?
  • Elle

  • Elle

Yea, they learn a little bit of everything. I remember my husband made potatoes, biscuits, roast beef, and he also did some baking. They also help set up the Ward room (hope I said that correctly).

  • Elle

It's the dining room for the officers. :)
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

so when do they learn the real stuff?  I heard they can be pastry chefs and stuff?
  • aveoamare(Ship02div925)

my hubby is going to be on a sub, thanks for the info Johanna
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Hi Jen...my son graduated almost two weeks ago and is still waiting to come home prior to reporting to his duty station also. Very frustrating!!!!!! :(
  • oregonmom

Oh I hope our sailors get to come home before they go out!! I am so sorry for you and your sailor, I hope he gets to come home! We need to see our boys!!
  • OMG hes a Sailor (div180)

One week from today we will be in Great Lakes waitin on the shuttles to PIR!!!! WOW! I have to thank you Ladies for all your prayers through this long 9mths! You have been here for me each and every step of the way! THANKS!

  • OMG hes a Sailor (div180)

Well Im not going to tell the GF or Brandon about the delay in getting to come home after A-school.....He will just worry. He wants to get married when he comes home...I kinda hope they decide to wait but I don't think that will happin!
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

Lauren---It is very costly for them to visit the area around Ft Lee as they have to take a taxi everywhere!!!!  So they usually double up (or triple up) but it is still expensive. They are living in trailers now and the new CS's that arrived from GL are sleeping on cots in the barracks. We understand they are getting paid, etc. but it would be great to see them before they leave. :(

OMG: Wow, congrats!!!! Enjoy PIR--it is amazing, awesome, and make sure you have plenty of kleenex, especially when those drums start!!! Where are you staying?

  • J&R's Mom

My son graduates w/ OMG's SR next week, she was the first friend I made on this site many, many months ago and now here we are getting ready to pack up and travel to PIR.  Simply Amazing!  I also will not mention the potential delay after A School.  You never know, things may change.  From what I am hearing, our SR's stay in Great Lakes for 2 weeks, then on to Ft Lee for 2 weeks.  I also have another son leaving for BC in June, then the journey begins again for me.  God Bless all of our loved ones that serve and protect this Country!  God Bless America.

  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

The A-school at Ft Lee is about four weeks long, not two. My son was at GL for about two weeks after PIR. Just waiting for some word on when he either reports or can come home. You will LOVE PIR!!!!

  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

The NEX is super crowded right after graduation! There is a NEX off base that you can go to or tehre is another NEX on base (by the gas station pumps). Try going later in the day or even the next day--not as crowded!

  • J&R's Mom

Thank you for the advice on the NEX Junebug and Johanna!  I cannot sleep with my boy in BS tonight and the upcoming trip, so friggin excited!!
  • Junebug (Ship 2 Div 918)

As for the DVD....I didn't buy it ONLY b/c my son was in a "900" division and he was behind the scenes. He was behind a door and opened it for the Chiefs, etc. coming in. So, if your son is a in 900 Div., just make sure you know what he is doing at PIR. You might not want the DVD if he won't be in it at all.

Justin/Ryan's mom--Good luck with BS tonight! I will light my blue candle....PIR Is awesome!!!!

  • MrsMink

Does anyone know when the BS is for div 195?
  • OMG hes a Sailor (div180)

brandon will be in GL untill june 6 I think, but he does not have to report at Aschool untill June 14th. He was told he may be able to come home for a few days and we can drive him to Fort Lee, it is only 4hrs away from our house.
  • Ellen B
