@OMG, I didn't realize it was you until after I wrote what I just did. I didn't know that B was going into Culinary! When did he start his classes??? We know each other from the Christian Mom site. Diego started this week, long story how he got there. Hoping all is well with you!!!
Just came back from CS graduation. Proud mom of Austin who graduated top of the class and received the Honor Award ( with an automatic advancement to E-3). The whole class was an honor class (class average of 95+). It was a beautiful ceremony and since we live so close we were able to have many church friends attend. Looking forward to seeing the pictures on the Facebook site. After starting out in Nuke school and then going on to CS - God has truly blessed my son and put him on the path that he should be on. God's ways are perfect and although the path may take longer at times the end result is HIs best for our sailors.
Yes, it was class 220 we were at yesterday. I have several shots of your daughter in the group photos that I would be glad to send to you. Congratulations to her and the rest of Honor Class 220. I added the class picture to my wall and am working others.
May God protect and bless each of these sailors as they depart for the service they have been called to.
Val, does your last name begin with a "D?" My son asked, he just started classes last Monday, this is week 2. He asked when I told him your son just graduated. They seem to know each other better by last names. Our's is a long one and most people don't get it right until we tell them how to pronounce it. I will let D know if it is. Does he know where he will be going yet?
I am sorry, I will be of no help. Our son didn't start out going CS, so I am not sure how it would work. Hoping one of the other moms will step in and give ya the schedule. Welcome!!
Last name does begin with a D. Sent you a friend request/message with more info. My son put in requests this morning at sub school but he will not know where he is sent until he finishes. All the rest of the sailors that graduated at CS who were going surface got their orders the last week of schooling.
Praying for all these young men and women sent to serve our country!
Kaitlyn- My son PIR'd 7-8 and stayed in GL for one week before being sent to Ft. Lee, VA. He was basically in a holding pattern prior to being sent to A School. They are given jobs during that time though. My son put away and prepped bedding. They also do some Indoc for Ft Lee as well. Hope that helps, Congratulations & Good luck to you and your new Sailor!
Hi Denise, honestly I am not sure. I am new to this site, maybe another mom can jump in with an answer. What is SD, as in South Dakota? What is there?
Today, 19 years ago our baby was born. Kyle Michael-Lon arrived at 5:50 P.M. weighing on at 8 lbs. 4 oz. and 22 inches long. Today, he stands at 5'10 and continues to be a blessing! He is an awesome son and we couldn't be more proud of him!! He is doing well in school and we know he is eating well, one of his favorite things to do!!! Happy Birthday D!!!! (Diego was his Spanish name in high school and it just stuck).
SD, San Diego..............of course!!! I am so out of it lately. I had a migraine for six days and just haven't gotten back on track. I didn't even think of that, lol
Thanks for the birthday wishes for Diego, he will appreciate them. He and Kelsey are hoping to get SD!! We are in MI. so they are wanting warm, but we will just have to see how everything plays out.
Sharon-Happy Birthday to D! SD is a great place to get stationed. My CS is there but is currently out on deployment. He will move to Bremerton in January though. I loved having him in SD as it is only 5 hours away. Ah well, we have never been to WA so a new place to visit next summer.
Wicked storm happening right now on this end. Haven't had one like this in a long while. It will help the grass though. Lost the TV connection, that is the only bad thing when ya live in the country. That is always the first to go...........darn it anyway, I was watching a movie.
Thanks Joanna for the offer. I love Mystic - I grew up in Cromwell (about 40 minutes away). My dear son's first word was "fishy when we went to the Mystic Aquarium when he was a baby and now he is right by there. I'll let him know if he has the urge to cook something he can contact you.
Happy Birthday to Diego!! May God bless him and guide him in his studies and NAVY life.
Thank you for the birthday wishes for D!! He and Kelsey had a great weekend together. They went to a movie, out to dinner and enjoyed spending time together. He will graduate on the 26th, should know where he will be stationed in about a week. He has chosen "SD!" Now that I know that is San Diego!!!! lol
Sharon- My daughter is in BC until 8/19. Then off to CS. She is hoping for San Diego as well as we live about 2 hours from there up by Disneyland. If your son gets stationed there, let me know. We would love to meet some other Navy families!
Well Brandon should be on the ship now....but it has been a little crazy around here. He got married, bought a car and it had after market wheels, he was going down the road and the back wheel came off....The Lord was with him cuz no cars were comeing. and he didnot hit anything. Then got a new tire and put the wheel back on. We told him that it was just a temp fix he needed to get new wheels because none of the lug nuts would stay tight. But as he is still a "teen ager" he thinks he is smarter than everyone else. He drove it to norfolk got Erica set up with Med and got her ID. He then drove her back. Was supposed to leave early yesterday evening but decided he would sleep for a while get dressed and leave EARLY this morning to get to Norfolk at 6am. I was sooooo mad at him for makeing that decision. Well he called me at 2am the wheel had started shakeing and he about wrecked the car AGAIN! He was on the side of the interstate...WHAT DO WE DO NOW? Well he found a friend to come and get him bring him all the way back to his Inlaws house and borrowed a car to go all the way back to Norfolk...Well I have not talked to him yet but he called the ship when he was on the side of the highway but I am praying he did not get in to much trouble for being late. His daddy said to him on the phone "Now will you beleave me when I tell you what you should and should not do?? I'm not stupid ya know, I've been around!!" He is also and a cow about money...He thinks it grows on trees!!! Now he is broke and charged up his credit card too!!! I guess he has to learn somehow!!
OMG, wow, this is one tough lesson for B to learn and now to do it all with a wife. He is now a married "man" and you have to let him make his own way, even all the mistakes. We can only pray that he understands what you as his parents are saying, what the inlaws will say as well. At their ages, they think they know more, haven't we all been there too. lol I will keep him in prayers that all gets fixed and works out well for them.
Thanks Cheryl, that is very sweet of you. We have family in AZ., ID, as well as OR. so they are hoping to visit them on that side of the country. It will be nice if they can see family while on the west coast. It is not for sure yet, he said he should know in about a week or so. Fingers crossed for them, that is where they want to go. We took our golden retriever down to them when we were there in early July. If they go west, we will drive back down to bring her back home here. They don't need her there with them, when they can they will fly home to MI. and they won't be able to leave her in a "kennel" as she has never been to one and don't want to start now. Nikko is 8 years old and loves to be with family at home, she is what I call a "home-body" much like myself! Thanks again!! Keep us posted on your daughter! Our son didn't choose CS, just happened that way.
OMG... I have 8 kids, but would still not want to be labled an expert on anything to do with them. However, it has been my experience that when they reach about 25 years of age, they start to again realize that their parents aren't complete idiots and that maybe they know a couple of things from life experience alone. Patience is a virtue.... you may need to say that over and over again for the next few years.
Sharon- If you need an emergency "dog sitter" let me know. We live on 2 acres and have 2 labs who would love to have a friend visit.
OMG-So sorry to hear about all your son's car trouble. It's always so hard to stop parenting. My kids are 25 & 23 and I haven't stopped yet! Sometime you have to let go and just remember all you taught them so far. It will be enough! At least he now has Navy people that have his back as well.
I do Cake Pops and will be sending Diego some tomorrow. Wonder if he will share any of them with the class! Heck, show the instructors and tell them to allow the class to make them!!! Had to do some for a birthday, had extras so will ship them in the morning. Red Velvet this batch. I have a large grad party that I am doing the whole dessert table this Saturday. Regular cupcakes, Gluten-free cupcakes and cake pops, tons of chocolates too. Truffles and molded chocolates. Yum!!!
Hey everyone, Navy Mom Cookbook has another book in the works, Sea to Shining Sea and it is $23.00 each. They make great gift ideas for all occasions. Order some today and pass the word!
Johanna...my DH is going on the tiger cruise shortly with the Ronald Reagan. Wish I could have gone but couldn't get the time off of work. :(
Sharon--my son is currently deployed on the Ronald Reagan. He is a CS3. He is really enjoying it. He graduated from CS school at Ft Lee in early May (this year). He enjoyed Ft Lee as the rooms were really nice along with the area. The instructors were good. The RR is going into dry dock in January so he will be moving to Bremerton.
Johanna--I would have loved to gone on the TC. However, being a teacher, I just couldn't get the time off of work. Too bad the TC wasn't in the summer; I would have certainly gone then.
I just meant that I am so used to many posts throughout the day on my other groups and this one is so quiet. Didn't think many are here to post often. I spoke to our son on Friday, he will graduate on the 26th and will be going to Norfolk. He was hoping for San Diego, but he said all the single people went west and the married people will stay on the east side. He also said he will be going to the USS Enterprise, then I find out that it will be de-commissioned due to long duty. So, not sure what will be going on once he gets there. He will have to return to S. C. to pack up everything and make the move with his wife, Kelsey and the famly dog, Nikko. We took her with us when we visited them in early July and left her with them. Kelsey loves having her there while Diego is away. They keep each other company which is good. We are debating whether or not to head down to surprise him either at graduation or be at their house in S. C. when they come home. We will see how things go and what Kelsey thinks is best to do.
How is the Tiger Cruise run, how do you get to go on one? That would be cool to do! Though, with Korey and Kacy in school, it would be tough for us to do as well. Maybe one day in the future when all three are in the Navy, our other two are planning on going in as well. Korey wants to go SEAL, and Kacy wants to go EOD. They have some work ahead of them, but they are hard workers so we will see how it all plays out.
OMG, that is awesome.............and sounds soooooooooo good!!!
Lauren, have a wonderful time with your Sailor!! Enjoy the Islands, that is so awesome that you will get to make that trip!!
Junebug, what grade and what do you teach? Korey is a senior and Kacy is a sophomore this year. They go back on 6 September, they are not ready. Then again, is anyone ready for a new school year? lol
son assigned to Tortuga and is very excited. Looks cool, I'm very happy for him. Any info on ship... bunks and such; if the curtains that they sell to darken and store stuff in their bunks will fit, or any other info would be helpful. Have any mom's here bought one of them? Don't want to waste money if it won't get used.
Wismama--not sure about the curtains though I know they do sell them. I saw them posted once before on another board. I sent my son sheets I bought at Target and he got in a bit of trouble but it was ok. They made him put his Navy regulation sheets on top of the target ones. lol
Sharon--my son's ship (Ronald Reagan) is going to drydock in Jan. for awhile. Not sure what will happen. My nephew was on the Enterprise for a few years.
Thanks Johanna, the TC sounds awesome, and I will be sure to take one if ever given the opportunity.
As far as I know, the Enterprise will be in dry dock for a few months before embarking on its last de-ployment according to Diego as of yesterday when we spoke. He will go out, sometime next year he said.........maybe a year. He will know more once he gets there of course. He has one of his best friends stationed out of Norfolk and a few buddies from boot camp as well. Also, another guy from his class which is good. He and Kelsey will meet many more friends and hook up with their friends already there. They will be fine, VA. in much closer to home (MI.) than San Diego that is for sure. He will graduate in two weeks, that is exciting!! I will keep all posted on what is happening. Thanks again!!
Corina- That's pretty amazing that they are both CS. I assume your daughter is staying at GL for 2 weeks then headed to Ft. Lee? That is what my daughter is doing. I wonder if they are friends? She hasn't mentioned many names, but says she is going to miss her BC buddies. Are you on Facebook? Please friend request me if you are. See you Thursday!
Brandon's FB status today: "so this morning i was chopping carrots for lunch and sliced the end of my thumb off, but its all good because we just got done serving dinner and the captain of my ship told me that i made the best mashed taters and gravy hes ever ate, so i guess that makes up for it. but my thumb still hurts like a bitch........lol"
Cake Pops are a baked cake any flavor cooled crumbled then mixed with a couple tablespoons of frosting mixed well. Roll into 1-1/2 inch balls put in fridge for a few hrs or cover for overnight. Melt chocolate and dip lollipop stick into chocolate ace into chilled ball. Let set up then dip into melted chocolate. You can place sprinkles on of of let chocolate set up and drizzle with colored chocolate. Place in freezer to set up using a piece of stryofoam to hold upright. Once all set up enjoy! If selling or giving away I put them in bags does with a ribbon. I have a FB fan page Sym's Chocolates that has pictures. My house internet is down & I'm just learning my new phone. We recently moved so I am not doing any at the moment. Soon I will get back to it.
My daughter is on USS Mobile Bay that was deployed 7/26. I am in the process of sending her a box of goodies but I think I will send CC cookies and maybe some peanut butter ones. She will be gone for 7 months or so and I miss her so much. God Bless Our Military Donna
Attention please Never ever use BBG Communications (Luxemburg) while traveling internationally this company is a rip off... more importantly don't use your debit/credit card to pay for it they charge like $50 a minute!! I'm not kidding on top of that they charge you several times even if you made one call. This company is found at airport on pay phones.
I haven't made the Oreo Pops, though I have heard they are great. I have a friend in Ohio that she uses Berry Burst Oreo's and we don't have them in our area. Well, that I have found anyway! I owned a retail chocolate shoppe and handmade all the chocolates! Now, I do special orders at home and just recently started doing the "Cake Pops" and they sell like hot cakes! I have been on hold though due to warm temps and making a move. We have AC in the new house, though it just puked last Friday, so waiting to see when that will be repaired or what needs to be done. So, once again.............on hold. lol
We found out that Diego will be going to Norfolk with the USS Enterprise, though somewhere along the way it will be dry docked before going out for one last deployment. Not sure when that will open though. We will learn more once he is there. He said all the single people are going west and all the married people will stay on the east coast. Part of the government saving money! lol

Welcome to the CS Moms site and congratulations on your son graduating from Bootcamp yesterday. I hope he enjoys his time in Virginia at Culinary school.
