Hello All, My sailor graduate from CS A School in Fort Lee. Miami, they will have a graduation after A school, it will be small and short only that class. I didn't go, my sailor told me that it wasn't no biggy. PattieO most likey if your son just starting A school he will not be able to come home for the hoildays. He will have to complete his Schooling before coming home or going to his next station. and Brie12, if you send a package to him they will annouce their name over a intercom for mail call so he'll get his package or mail. Wow my sailor finish A School and she's still in her room, she's on hold ready to go to San Diego Cali. She's trying to come home for Thanksgiving but haven't gotten orders to leave so she's just there waiting.); Navy way

Hope I was able to help and wish all you and your sailors the best.

    What she like the most???

How many weeks was her program??? my son started in Ft Lee on Tuesday the 13th (what a date) I would like to know when is his graduation.

Is there any official site where I can see dates like when they were in boot camp??

  • MistyMom

Thanks Miami-Mommy!  She was in A school for 5 weeks.  I don't know of a site that shows the dates like the one for bootcamp did but the school does have a facebook.  Do a search for Center-for-Service-Support-Learning-Site-Fort-Lee in facebook.  They post a lot of pics for each of the graduations there, etc.

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Welcome to the new Moms, Wives and Girlfriends!! Glad to have you with us.

Our Sailor returned from an eight month deployment on 04 November, we were down in Norfolk to welcome the USS Enterprise back. It was an amazing time as this was our first deployment. He is married (2 yrs on the 22nd), they are 20 years old and they stocked up on certain things before he even left Norfolk. He was well stocked and didn't need anything the whole time, oh, except his vitamins and snacks which we sent all the time. We also adopted a friend's son, as she wasn't able to send him anything. We kept him well stocked over the course of time. Our Sailor bartered alot too along the way. When he needed something, the other person would barter with him and he was never without. It worked out well for everyone. He will stay with the boat until summer or fall, not sure where he will go next. He did very well while under deployment, made a list of goals and met every one of them. He even earned his Surface Warfare Pin which was at the top of his list. He was pinned not long before they came back. It was a day we will never forget. We even hired a photographer and so glad we did, this way none of us had to remember to take pictures. There is a program called Welcome Them Home and photographers donate their time and services to those coming back from deployment and you get a FREE 8 x 10 photo. You can pay a certain amount if you want the pictures on a CD. The web address is:

    www.welcomethemhome.org

We loved our photographer and will give you her name and name of her company if you are in Norfolk. It is an awesome program and they give back to our servicemembers!

Our Sailor is flying home for a 12 day leave, he got his leave for Christmas and we have a Banner we will put up in the yard. Remember, you can get a FREE Banner (only pay for shipping) through Build A Sign and there address is:

    www.buildasign.com/troops

Keep these handy so you have them when your Sailors/Marines come back from deployment! Wishing everyone a great week!!

  • dtarmy06

My son was also on the USS Enterprise on her last deployment...But attached to the Strike Fighter Squadron VFA-211.... he just received a citation today....from the Commander. I was so proud i had to share

  • dtarmy06

johanna, the deactivation was on dec 1..

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

dtarmy, Congrats to Tim, I saw it on the Big 'E' page. It is so cool when they ger rewarded for their hard work! Glad you shared it, we may never see our Sailor's, he received one as well and his dad and brother were aboard to witness it. Not many were handed out they said, so this is truly extra special for them to be recongized from their command! Kudos to both our boys!!! Our Sailor was in charge of all the orders for incoming and outgoing, all the chits, and so much more in the supply department. From what hubby said when he was on for the Tiger Cruise, our Sailor was the 'go-to' guy. Everyone went to him when they had a problem with any paperwork and is sure kept him busy! He did really well and we are so proud of him! He didn't work the galley much after the first month of deployment, Master Chief and Chief pulled him and he ended up doing all the office work, he didn't mind at all. lol

Johanna, like dtarmy said.............the big 'E' was inactivated on Saturday, 01 December. You can watch it at www.navy.mil they showed the whole ceremony. It was so touching, I had tears in my eyes throughout the whole time. It was about an hour 20 minutes long, it was special. Not sure where our Sailor will be going yet, he said he should know by summer. Hoping he gets a boat that is in the yards and not one getting ready to go out again anytime soon. The Big 'E' will take about three years to get her ready for the scrapyard, sad they are doing that. They also announced their will be another USS Enterprise, it will be CVN80!! That was so exciting to hear!! She and her legend lives on!!!!

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Johanna, he is busy cleaning out his office and putting everything on the barge that is now in place. He has something in the works which is not yet final, but he will be going out again. It is really hard for me, we have had him home since the 15th, he sadly will be heading back down sometime tonight. He has to report back to duty on the 28th, and has to get some things done before that. He has been working in the office, doing all the chit processing, the incoming and outgoing for all the supply department. He is the 'go-to' guy for everything. Not so much in the galley for many months now, though always worked the special events and with the catering when needed. So much happening right now, hard to process it all. So not ready for this next move, but have no choice. Will keep ya posted. Merry Christmas to everyone!!
  • Diann CS Mom

Johanna, military life is hard, not just for the parents but the military people too. I remember many years when I was in that I couldn't be home for the holidays and missing my children's Christmases. We were lucky this year to have my son home for Christmas but he goes back to Japan in the morning. I hear his laughter in his room and will miss that. My cat won't miss his messing with him but I will miss my son. Hang tough and enjoy the time you get. Get lots of hugs in while you can.
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Johanna, enjoy having your Sailor home!!! I will keep him and all in prayers. Yep, back to back is tough on everyone. Not sure what, where, for ours at the moment, he will let us know when he knows. One day at a time, we really don't have any choice. So, love on them when they are home and with you, love them from afar when they are out. God will take care of them, I keep the faith!
  • Ray ray

    AGREED!!
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

    Johanna, You got that right!!!

Hope everyone had a great New Year. Hubby, Kevin and I decided to go down to the city which is about 40 minutes away. We went to the open mall, walked around a bit, went to P. F. Changs for lunch and a drink, walked around some more, then to Bar Louie's for a snack and a drink, walked around even more and ended up going back to P. F. Chang's for dessert and another drink!!! We have never done that and it was so much fun!!!! We called our Sailor, he was out with friends bowling and having some fun too!! So, Kevin and I get home, do the dogs, clean up for bed, watching the programs on T.V. waiting on midnight.......we fell asleep and woke up at 12:10 A.M.!!!!! I guess all the fresh air walking around the mall really was good for us!!! It was wonderful to spend the day together, he works pretty much 80 hours a week. So, for us to be able to be together.......priceless!!!

Happy New Year!!! Wishing us all a wonderful, peaceful, and blessed year!!!!
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Gina, prayers for a safe drive down. Hoping you will be able to go aboard maybe the day before they leave. We were for the Big 'E' when they left in March. Now, just so you know......there is a lot of theft on the ship's. It doesn't matter if they have their name on everything in bright pink letters, someone will steal it!!! Our Sailor had so much stolen from him, two covers in one day, his iPod, most of his clothes never made it back to him from laundry, and in the last week of deployment someone stole his Nike's. Everyone kept their shoes on top of their lockers and his went missing! They even steal underwear!!! Not kidding!!!! Make sure he locks everything up at all times!!!! You would think that people would be honest, they have their own things, but people are not honest, they lie and steal from you! Sad, but true!!! 'Fair Winds and Following Seas' to all deploying soon!!!

Our Sailor is back to work, getting things packed and on the barge. He has been busy, haven't really talked to him since he returned from Christmas leave. We will probably catch up with him by tomorrow, Sunday is usually our chat day unless he has to work or duty.
  • Michelle

    Hi CS Moms,

My name is Michelle and my son will be departing in April for bootcamp with a CS rating. I'm a veteran Navy wife so I'm thinking I'll handle this well but a husband and one of "your babies" is probably going to be a different thing altogether! Hope everyone is having a great day and New Year!

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Welcome Michelle!! Congrats and best of luck to your soon-to-be-Sailor!

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

    Hi fellow CS moms,

My name is Wendy and my son leaves for BC Jan. 22nd with a CS rating. Both my parents are retired Marines and husband former Air Force. I know everything will be ok but when it's your only child its hard. Anyone know how backed up A school is?

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

    Welcome jagcrazy!

Our Sailor has been in for a little over two years, he returned from deployment in early November with the USS Enterprise. She was inactivated and is in the process of being emptied out. We are waiting to hear what orders will come down for our Sailor.
  • Michelle

Thanks all for the welcome :).

ann*ship13*div365* what do they do between the end of boot camp and starting school? Do they stay in Great Lakes or ship to VA to wait?

  • dtarmy06

    Welcome all the new moms........

Michelle.... it just depends on how long it takes to get a new school full before they start..... My son had to wait 2-3 weeks.... some longer... some shorter.

sometimes they stay in GL and some go to Ft Lee.

  • Joan

Hi! My son graduated 12/21 & yesterday was told he will be going to Fort Lee on 1/19 but doesn't know if he will be on hold there.
  • Michelle

    Ok

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

Thanks for the welcomes and info :)

  • dtarmy06

he should be able to go home..on liberty.. it will just be up to who even is in charge

  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

Our Sailor ended up at Ft. Lee under different circumstances and drove his truck there from S. C. He had to park it, was only allowed to go once a week to start it for ten minutes. He wasn't allowed to drive it all. They have phases they have to go through yet again, so it depends on the phase they are in whether they can go off base or not. Our Sailor was there for seven weeks, he was able to go off base a few times. After graduation, he drove back to S.C. to pack up their base housing and then drive back up to Norfolk where he was stationed. His journey has been quite different getting to where he is now. He is waiting on new orders currently, not sure where they will take him. He returned in November from an eight month deployment with the USS Enterprise. They have been busy packing, storing, transfering, everything off the boat as she has been 'inactived.'

  • VictoriasDad

A school for CS used to be in Great Lakes but they have since moved it to Ft. Lee Virginia.  My Daughter PIR'd at Great Lakes on Jan 18th and is shipping to Ft. Lee Feb. 2nd to attend CS 'A' school.

  • classydw

    Hello everyone .
I'm Dee new to all of this my son left for boot camp a week ago. He is also going to be a CS. My understanding the school is in Viriginia
  • Sharon ~ K's Mom

CS School is now located at Ft. Lee in VA. It is an Army base, it is a new state of the art facility. They house all branches of the military, the Navy is with the Air Force. When our Sailor was there in 2010, he said he should have joined the Air Force, they know how to treat their people. Now, when they get there they will have phases they must go through. Each phase has rules and limitations. Our Sailor ended up there via a different route, he had to drive his truck there and had to park it. They allowed him to start it for ten minutes once a week, he was there for seven weeks. He had to go back to phase 1, always in uniform and all the goes with those rules. He ended up being able to go off base later, though was never allowed to drive his truck until he received his orders and was leaving the base to go back to the other base, pack up their housing and move to Norfolk where his orders took him. So, this is it in a nutshell.............Ft. Lee is in VA. It is an Army base, though houses all branches for CS training. Graduation is short, sweet and simple, though you are more than welcome to attend. Hope this helps all the newbies...................Welcome!!!

  • NarMom

    hello kandilee,

CS A School is 5 to 6 weeks. graduation was short, small class. I didn't attend my sailors, I wento to her PIR BC Graduation. and she told me not to worry about coming up to CS graduation. After that some went off to there duties, but my sailor was there for a few more weeks unitl she went to San Diego Cal.

  • FutureSailorKebe

  • TatesMom

My son was supposed to start classes but was told he is on hold until (probably) March 18th.  He's at Ft. Lee and graduated last month from Great Lakes.  He was part of the second group of sailors starting.  Is there anyone who knows more about what's going on?  If he doesn't start classes till the 18th, that's right before Easter.  He was already gone for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years for BC.  I'm sure I'll figure out a way to make it up to him, but I find the best way to get info if from N4M.  You ladies are the best!

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

Tatesmom; did you son go to Ft. Lee right after PIR? My sons PIR is 3/15/2013.
  • Diann CS Mom

Irish, my son is on the Blue Ridge and his address is Supply Dept/S-2. Don't know if it is the same on the Ike. Check and see if Ike has a Facebook page and ask there also. Hope this helps.
  • dtarmy06

Irish, here is a link to the IKEs page....http://www.eisenhower.navy.mil/  on there go to the Family readiness group (FRG) and there is Phone # for you and your family ... and you can always ask us... !!!! Good luck... and let me know if this helps you! My son got back from his first deployment on the Enterprise in NOV... but im a former navy brat, navy spouse and now a Proud navy mom....

  • dtarmy06

Irish .... Tami here... I know the first deployment is always the hardest... and yes they are soooo far away.... but at least they have email... and can call... back in the day that was unheard of...we only had snail mail... and a phone call was collect from the port they were in...so the navy has come along way to help them and us keep in contact with family....! :) :) hope you have a GREAT DAY....

on a side note.... my son Tim is in Virgina Beach... and got to help out at a dinner reception for a Vice Admiral last week.... OMG he loved it ... and was asked to do another one... in May.. YEAH!!!! if he does Good (which he will) he will get paid for that one... and hopefully after a few a letter from the Vice admiral

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

Just wondering if anyone had answer to Tatesmom's question. My SR's PIR is 3/15/13. He will be held in GL for a week with 8 others CS's then to Fort Lee. Does anyone know how long the hold for classes to start is?

  • dtarmy06

Wendy.... when they are on hold... it really depends on how many they need to fill a class... it could be a week...or a month... sorry hope this helps some...!

  • TatesMom

I'm happy to say, it looks like the hold on my son's classes won't extend beyond the 18th.  It was a month longer than what he originally expected, but he had a great attitude about it.  Said he was getting paid pretty darn good to clean ladders...Plus, he had the advantage of getting the scoop about what the classes were like and got to study ahead.  Making lemonade :)

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

Kandilee; Congrates to you and your Sailor. My SR's PIR is 3/15/2013. He say's him and 8 other CS's will be on hold in GL for a week then off to Fort Lee. Maybe they'll be in the same class.

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

LeeAnnNavyMom Congrats to you and your son. Can you tell me what he needs for A school (personal items)?

  • Wendy/Chris'Mom

Can you ladies tell me did your sons choose carriers or get assigned to them? My son wants to go be on a destroyer based in Japan.
